Job Summary

Shimmick Construction, an AECOM Co., is seeking a Senior level Estimator for our Suisun offices.

Brief Job Description:

  • Responsible for all aspects of Estimating process

  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs

  • Conduct thorough review of drawings and specifications

  • Perform detailed project cost estimate using estimating software such as Hard Dollar/HCSS

  • Be able to produce general project schedules for the purposes of estimating

  • Solicit subcontractors and vendors and ensure scope coverage prior to bid day

  • Analyze and select subcontractors and vendors

  • Lead and participate in discussion regarding constructibility and means and methods

  • Mentor/Teach junior estimators

  • Ability/Experience leading large bid-build estimates up to or in excess of 100 Million

Responsibilities:

  • Understands estimating terminology and measures and recognizes estimating processes/project actions that may impact the project.

  • Participates with management in development of strategies and plans.

  • Participates in analyzing and using estimations to predict key project issues.

  • Assists in the evaluation of business opportunities and potential profitability.

  • Understands construction means, methods, and sequences-multiple disciplines.

  • Supervises junior staff through task development, establishing and maintaining goals and expectations, and documenting performance related issues and achievements.

  • Identifies and develops talent.

  • Assists in tracking action items.

  • This is a supervisory/technical specialist position responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the work of subordinates under the direction of a manager or functions as a technical expert.

  • May work directly with contractor to resolve technical matters during negotiation and contract execution.

  • Prepares crew build-ups and production rate determinations.

  • Determines construction equipment selection.

  • Possesses a working knowledge of planning and scheduling.

  • Understands company cost structure (overheads, G&A, insurances).

  • Develops Work Breakdown Structures.

  • Capable of managing the preparation of an estimate.

  • Leads Project Team estimate reviews.

  • Evaluates suitability of scope and execution plan for basis of estimate.

  • Initiates the preparation of an Estimate Plan (approach, techniques, level of effort, cost, schedule), Basis of Estimate and qualifications.

  • Prepares bid tabulations responding to the customer/Request for Proposal requirements.

  • Collects, analyzes and archives project data. Develops historical documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Civil/Structural/Earthwork or Mechanical estimating experience

Software:

  • Mastery of excel is a requirement.

  • Experience in Bluebeam or other on screen take-off type program.

Preferred Qualifications

Estimating Software:

  • Hard Dollar and experience with it is ideal, preferred to have experience in either Hard Dollar or HCSS.

Other Software:

  • Experience in P6 is a plus, but not required.

Advantages:

  • If you have a combination of field experience and estimating experience this is a plus.

  • If you have experience in bidding on design-build projects this is a plus.

  • If you have experience in bidding on large joint venture projects this is a plus.
