Job Summary

AECOM’s Impact Assessment and Permitting practice is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented Senior Ecologist for immediate employment in the Cincinnati, Ohio office. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas and electric utilities. AECOM’s Cincinnati Impact Assessment and Permitting group conducts a wide variety of projects including environmental field assessments, environmental regulatory permitting, utility siting and licensing, environmental inspection, and many others. The group primarily works on projects in Ohio and adjacent states as part of AECOM’s regional ecological group. There are opportunities to work on large scale projects or projects further afield than the typical project range if candidate is interested. Responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Stream, wetland, and wildlife habitat assessments

  • Writing wetland delineation reports, function assessments, mitigation plans, and environmental compliance/permitting documents

  • Task and project management

  • Coordination with various governmental agencies (USFWS, USACE, etc)

  • Preparing biological evaluations/assessments

  • Leading field crews for wetland/waterbody and wildlife habitat assessments

  • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.

  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

  • Plans and organizes project studies.

  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field + six years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Must have valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MS in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology or related field

  • Minimum 6+ years of data collection, data review, and preparation of scientific documents including wetland delineations, stream assessments, technical reports, Section 401/404 permitting and mitigation requirements

  • Experience delivering high quality technical documentation and permit applications

  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment

  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written

  • Position requires field work and candidate must be able to travel
