Subject Matter Expert - Digital Forensics
Transforming Forensics (TF) is a national programme delivering new capabilities into policing to enable forensic service delivery of a fully integrated forensic service that will better support policing and the wider criminal justice system and adapt more readily to future needs.

Having produced The NPCC Digital Forensics Science Strategy the Digital Forensics (DF) Project within the TF programme is now tasked with implementing the DF deliverables set down in the TF Spending Review 20/21 in support of the DF Science Strategy.
Core DF project work is focused on the following key areas;
The DF Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide technical and operational support to these (and other) activities to successfully deliver the desired outcomes.
The DF SME will be part of the DF Project and report to the DF SME & Evaluation Lead
This post will work alongside other DF SMEs, and will not have any direct reports
The post-holder will be regularly dealing with DF Project Manager, Category Leads, TF Design Team, Force contacts for discovery/field testing, Other DF subject matter experts.
The post holder will work in a challenging and demanding role that will require specialist IT knowledge, DF domain expertise and deep knowledge of investigative requirements including disclosure
NPPV 2 (for non police staff) vetting is required for this post owing to the sensitive nature of information to be dealt with and the agencies involved. These can be obtained once the applicant is successful.
Support the work of the Digital Forensics Project in delivering the themes and workstreams contained within the 20/21 spending review
Provide DF subject matter advice and guidance in line with requests from category leads and project management
Ensuring alignment of DF science strategy with the 20/21 deliverables and associated activities
Liason with organisational / force representatives through discovery & field testing
Deep understanding of Digital Forensics in relation to the wider ICT perspective
Knowledge of current investigative and forensic workflow
Proven technical/management expertise, specialist subject matter knowledge and experience in the provision of police forensics or similar law enforcement services. Have a gravitas and credibility with operational business stakeholders. Possess an in depth knowledge of the external forensic marketplace and its interactions with Forces.
Possess knowledge of how ISO accreditation standards are applied within DF, and the wider implication for ICT integration
Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and resources to meet objectives and deadlines
High resilience and commitment to change and service, demonstrated in a Police environment
Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a science or engineering related field
Knowledge of the TF programme, business case, objectives, plan and stakeholders
Experience of disruptive change and the impact of agencies, industry and academia
