Facilities Master Electrician


The essential functions of the Senior Facilities Electrician are monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing and servicing site electrical wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures and performing preventative maintenance with an emphasis on quality work, performed efficiently and following all applicable state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code. Must be able to work with suppliers, inspectors, and co-workers to ensure facilities, maintenance, equipment, machinery and building systems remain operational and projects are completed on-time with minimal disruption to operations. Prioritize service calls, and follow up upon completion and assist in the performance of construction projects. Must be able to read blue prints, perform office activities and assist in maintaining facility systems, equipment, machinery, and esthetics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain electrical building systems and equipment (to include Uninterruptible Power supplies, Backup Generators, and Switchgear) to operate at optimal levels.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components and install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Perform related tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
  • Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair basic electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs as needed

Experience and Education:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Minimum seven years of related experience or military technical training, plus formal electrical education/certifications
  • Possess Journeyman or Master Electrician license in Virginia.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an ACTIVE TS/SCI clearance with a CI polygraph within 12 months of start date.
