This is a general summary of the responsibilities associated with the position of Trainer I for the NIH, Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC). This description is not inclusive of all duties required to successfully complete the job each day. It is intended to reflect SoBran's contractual obligations to the LARC. Employees are expected to complete all assigned duties each day.

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Trainer I for SoBran's animal care contracts.


Primary duties may include the following:

*All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7 am and depart at 3:30 pm M-F. You may be required to work on the weekends as scheduled. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed

The function of the Trainer I is to ensure that staff assigned to each position is trained and proficient in such a way that the work is accomplished in accordance with SOPs, policies and guidelines associated with the expectations of their position. They are to serve as the subject matter expert in all areas of the facilities. This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the facilities. We expect the Trainer to be forward thinking and create and assist in developing plans to enhance the learning abilities and performance of the staff working on this contract. The Trainer must possess strong verbal communication and teaching skills. The Trainer will assist the Training program management in the efficient allocation of the budget, write and maintain reports and develop and maintain an effective relationship with the Government staff. This position will require local DMV travel and 10% overnight travel to various SoBran contract sites.

1) Understands and follows all SOP's and Quality Assurance Standards.

2) Develop and implement a facility wide in-house training plan/program for each position in the facilities

3) Work with the task and facility managers to identify and prioritize topics for staff training, and complete said trainings in a timely manner

4) Collaborate with investigators and veterinarians to develop training models

5) Conduct weekly training sessions for each assigned building or unit for animal care and support staff. Training is to
consist of hands on demonstrations, instructional classroom or a combination of these

6) Provide monthly safety training sessions for all contract staff

7) Document evidence that each staff member is trained/proficient in the current SOP's required for their position

8) Provide necessary re-training and cross training where and when needed

9) Assist in new hire orientation. Provide additional training for new hires, transfers from other positions, or changes in job

10) Develop and maintain a database tracking all training received by each staff member

11) Provide management with monthly and yearly reports of training sessions conducted and staff certification levels

12) Establish and maintain a training/reference library that staff can use for review or preparation of certification or
proficiency testing

13) Conduct Quality Control inspections in accordance with SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards for SoBran contracts

14) Facilitate completion and submission of contract deliverables as required

15) Must be able to lift 50lbs

16) Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Employees' appointed to the position of Training Coordinator must meet one of the following standards prior to appointment:
â?¢ An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology, Biology, Animal Sciences, or related discipline.

Employees must hold an AALAS certification at the LATg level; or they must be eligible for and successfully complete the LATg exam within one calendar year of appointment to this position.

Minimum of 3 years working in an animal research environment
Experience with multiple animal species, both husbandry and technical expertise.
Ability to speak in public
