Job Summary

AECOM is searching for an Intermediate Civil Engineer to be based in our Burnaby, BC office. The successful candidate will have an understanding and significant experience in civil engineering, civil technology, hydraulic modelling and planning principles and is familiar with the design and construction of municipal infrastructure. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers mostly within the municipal storm water, water and wastewater sector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Build/run hydraulic models including green infrastructure

  • Perform hydraulic model verification, calibration and assessment

  • Design of civil systems associated with municipal water and/or wastewater /drainage conveyance facilities

  • Writing and review of technical memorandums and reports

  • Perform development servicing reviews

  • Develop/review water, sanitary, storm water master/management plans

  • Support in the delivery of modelling strategies

  • Support in the delivery of asset management plans

  • Perform constructability reviews

  • Perform construction inspections

  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports

  • Prepare construction cost estimates

  • Preparation of project specifications and contract documents

Additional responsibilities will include client communication and management; assistance with proposal preparation; coordination with regulatory agencies, project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Experience with civil engineering, hydraulic modelling, planning, design construction inspection, contract administration

  • Eligible for registration as P.Eng preferred

  • Training and experience in project management

  • Experience in proposal writing and job scoping

  • Experience with Hydraulic Modelling platforms and willingness/capability to learn new platforms including

  • Urban drainage/sewer system hydraulic modelling platforms such as PCSWMM, XPSWMM, InfoWorks ICM (2D modelling experience preferred), MIKEURBAN

  • Water distribution modelling experience including EPANET or WaterCAD

  • Working knowledge of water / wastewater / drainage conveyance infrastructure in a Municipal environment

  • Working knowledge of blue and green infrastructure: ponds, wetlands, bioswales, raingardens, etc.

  • MMCD Contract Administration certification

  • Working knowledge of integrating groundwater conditions in civil design

  • Excellent written skills needed for technical reports

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

  • Valid BC Class V Driver's License

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients

  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
