Project & Design Mechanical Engineer (Supporting NASA at Johnson Space Center)

The Project and Design Engineer will perform mechanical system design, project management, requirements management and implementation, hardware maintenance (including discrepancy troubleshooting/resolution), and procedure development associated with the processing and testing of NASA Extravehicular Activity (EVA/xEVA) and other NASA and commercial equipment. The employee will collaborate with members the Hardware & Design Engineering team, technicians, and customers to ensure project outcomes meet our customers’ needs and the hardware is ready and available to meet our customer deliverable milestones.


-Project management associated with the development/acquisition and implementation of new hardware and requirements

-Performs hardware design of new products and existing hardware upgrades

-Implementation of the maintenance and repair requirements associated with the hardware.

-Hardware troubleshooting and resolution of out of spec and failure conditions

-Procedure development for hardware, assembly, testing, manufacturing, and materials

-Customer interface associated with project, test, and hardware support

-Develops maintenance, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing processes and procedures

-Improves process efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow and equipment requirements

-Coordinates hardware maintenance and repair


Candidate must be able familiar with mechanical design and testing methodologies, project management, test planning activities, AutoCAD, CREO (preferred), and be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision-making and initiative in a real-time and operational environment. Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone or as part of a team. Candidate is required to pass a security clearance. Shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) is periodically required.


• BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET) - Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential plus 5 years of related experience.

• Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory

• Project management experience preferred

This position also requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment.
