Our Roads team have a vacancy for a Highways/Traffic Senior Engineer/Project Manager to be based out of our St Albans office.
As Senior Engineer, you will be either leading the delivery of small and medium-sized projects or form part of a project management team on larger projects with responsibility for ensuring successful project delivery to meet Client expectations & the agreed deliverables. In doing so you will support our contract commitments whilst ensuring the designs are produced to a high quality and in accordance with all relevant standards and guidance.
Other aspects of the role will include supporting the growth of our project management capabilities in the Roads team, building a reputation for excellence, mentoring others, supporting business development and bidding activities.
St Albans is a beautiful historic market town in the heart of Hertfordshire and is conveniently located just 20 minutes from London St Pancras and a short hop off of the M1, M25 and A1(M). Our large office is situated just a few minutes’ walk from the railway Station and the historic city centre which boasts a fantastic range of eating and drinking establishments alongside many small independent shops and high street stores.
The Roads team provides concept, preliminary, detailed design and network modelling on a wide range of projects for local authorities and contractors plus supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a specialised traffic and highways interface.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:
Midlands Highways Alliance (MHA) - Currently designing and building over £100m worth of infrastructure across the south east through the application of our professional services and Construction Frameworks as a single collaborative vehicle for the Design and Build of local authority transport schemes?
London Highway Alliance Contract (LoHAC)- This joint initiative between TfL and London's boroughs aims to deliver a reliable, reputable and cost-effective highways service across the Capital providing highways professional services to over 20 local boroughs via these contracts. These services cover the full spectrum of transport planning and traffic engineering services our LoHAC contracts deliver for TfL, ranging from policy development and advice, cyclical programmes of Footway and Surfacing improvements, varying scale Road Space Management Schemes to involvement in the design of major transport schemes such as Cycle Super Highways.
A successful track record of managing project teams to deliver successful outcomes for Clients
Knowledge of relevant design and safety standards (e.g. DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW, Manual for Streets, CDM)
Experience in the design of highway engineering and local transport schemes, including preparation of design drawings, reports, and technical notes
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to set, manage, forecast and control budgets
Experience in programme planning, providing guidance and auditing delivery
Experience in preparing detailed client briefs and brief responses, fee proposals and a willingness to contribute to major bids
Well-developed leadership, communication, negotiating, influencing and interpersonal skills, with the drive and commitment to achieve project/ programme wide objectives
The ability to motivate and mentor staff, sharing knowledge to ensure the wider team are up to date with current best practice, techniques and innovation
Excellent people skills with a record of building and managing strong relationships with clients
A relevant degree or HND; and Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status or membership of a professional institution and working towards an appropriate Chartered status.
A project management qualification (eg: PRINCE2, APM etc).
NEC3/4 Project Manager accredited
Other Desirable skills are:
CSCS Card holder.
Experience in acting as a Line Manager supporting the career progression of line reports including mentoring and agreeing individual training plans.
