Position Requirements:Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program.Attainment of NBRC entry level credential as Registered, and possesses an Illinois state license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.Basic Life Support.Pediatric Advanced Life Support within one year of hire.Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire.Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 18 months of hire.Strong interpersonal, clinical, problem~solving, and communication skills.Must be able to work as a member of an inter~ interdisciplinary patient care team as well as promote a positive team spirit and professional image of the respiratory care department.Possess an advanced knowledge base and demonstrates competence in all Respiratory Care modalities for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.Possess excellent knowledge base of pathologic states, disease management and methods for patient assessment.Demonstrates strong patient and family teaching and care plan development abilities.Ability to maneuver heavy equipment or lift heavy objects (ie. patient, compressed gas cylinders).May be exposed to hazardous materials/disease states.May be exposed to strong odors and bodily fluids/waste.Duties require much verbal activity and the ability to speak in front of a group.Emergency patient activities may be stressful.If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.Purpose:Under the supervision of the Manager, Respiratory and Pulmonary Services, the Respiratory Care Team Lead, in conjunction with the Medical Director, the Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care modalities to inpatients and outpatients of all age groups, including neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric. All modalities are provided in accordance with written policies and procedures, and include oxygen therapy, respiratory treatments, ventilator support, blood gas analysis, EKG's, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These modalities may be delivered in all areas of the hospital. The Registered Respiratory Therapist functions as an integral part of the healthcare team and is vital to providing quality, safe patient care utilizing clinical and critical thinking skills.Accountabilities:Assess indications for and delivers the highest quality of patient care and monitors for optimal outcomes by utilizing best practices from evidenced based medicine and AARC and AAP clinical practice guidelines for prescribing and assessing patient responses to delivered therapies. Re~evaluates patients on an ongoing basis to ensure that appropriate modalities and plan of care are adjusted or maintained as patient condition changes.
