ManTechs Air Force and Space Division is recruiting highly talented candidates to support a contract that provides cradle to grave support to the United States Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Launch Systems Enterprise Directorates National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program.

We assist the Air Force by supporting a multitude of areas, including Systems Engineering & Integration, Acquisition & Program Management Support, Mission Integration Management, System Safety & Environmental Engineering, Systems Security & Information Assurance, Launch Schedule and Risk Management, Certification of New Entrant Launch Vehicles.

ManTech is actively seeking a motivated, customer-oriented Launch Site System Safety Engineer to join our team in the Cape Canaveral, FL area.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides technical analysis of hazards associated with spacecraft design, launch vehicle design, aerospace ground support equipment/hardware, facilities, and processing for the Launch Systems Enterprise Directorate (SMC/LE) through the Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) Contract while stationed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.  Work will include support to the United Launch Alliance Atlas and Delta family of launch vehicles and SpaceX Falcon and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles along with their respective launch complexes.  General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Familiarity with SMC/ECL programs and Space Vehicle System Safety design as well as the SMC/ECL Safety Review process
  • Working knowledge of range safety requirements and ensures implementation of applicable 30th/45th Space Wing range safety requirements for space vehicle programs, support equipment/hardware and facilities
  • Knowledge of Nuclear safety and/or ionizing/non-ionizing radiation
  • Experience working in an integrated contracting environment/team
  • Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 Department of Defense Standard Practice of System Safety
  • Knowledge of Orbital Debris Mitigation Standard Practices
  • Participation in System Safety Working Groups and annual System Safety Groups
  • Responsible for assessment of System Safety and Environmental documentation submitted related to launch site
  • Evaluation of contractor Range safety program submittals
  • Provide recommendations and support to customer with respect to safety requirements
  • Collaborate and coordinate safety program tasks and initiatives with offsite teammates
  • Prepare program documents and materials to maintain continued acquisition program safety compliance
  • Evaluate contractor safety program submittals for adequacy vs. requirements.
  • Prepare periodic reports summarizing safety activities status and plans.
  • Create reports and risk assessments and document Safety and Environmental assessments
  • Provide liaison with SMC/LE Safety personnel and CCAFS Safety organizations
  • Report to the Lead System Safety Engineer at LAAFB to coordinate safety tasks at LAAFB, CA including interfaces with SMC/LE safety and SMC/SE, SMC/EN staff offices.

MANDATORY SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or Math with a minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering preferred or 8 years with MS (Engineering, Physics, or Math) or prior specific extensive experience (10 years) with launch systems design, testing, vehicle processing and ground systems required due to complexity of work being performed. 
  • Experienced in system engineering and project management and working with senior Government program managers and various contractor support staffs as well as in a multi-disciplinary, geographically separated team environment.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain secret clearance

Preferred Skills:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Work as an integral team member of the SE&I Team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commercial business applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Physical:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
