Year-Round EOS Satellite Ops Intern

KBR is seeking a Year-Round ntern to work on the Earth Observing System (EOS) Flight Operations Team (FOT) in the Earth Science Mission Operations (ESMO) Directorate.

EOS Intern Responsibilities:

  • Conduct simple or routine mission specific tasks such as documentation updates, data entry, trending, plotting, testing, and training
  • May, under supervision, perform real-time spacecraft/satellite flight operations for the Aqua, Aura or Terra missions, in accordance with the EOS Flight Operations Team’s established standard operating procedures and best practices including:
  • Assisting with implementing the daily operations plans required to collect and deliver mission science and engineering data
  • Assisting to perform any real-time planning or re-planning necessary to mitigate mission or data risks incurred by flight-segment or ground-segment anomalies
  • Helping to verify flight system configuration and monitor and evaluate flight system and component state-of-health during real-time spacecraft contacts
  • Review and update online documentation (SOPs)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Assist in the development of EOS operations process improvements for the spacecraft(s) and/or ground system.
  • Performs simple clerical and manual tasks required to maintain and service files, as required
  • Follows clearly detailed specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as coding and filing documents in an extensive alphabetical file
  • Could involve simple posting to individual accounts, opening mail, calculating and posting charges to departmental accounts, operating basic office equipment, e.g., photocopier, facsimile, multi-line phone/voicemail systems, mailing machines, and minimal computer programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

All duties will be performed under direction of EOS Flight Operation Team Manager.

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate coursework in a degree program at an accredited university working toward completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, mathematics or computer science or equivalent experience
