Company Our client, is a 70+ year old transportation and warehousing provider with over 48 million sq. feet of warehousing space in 19 locations across the United States. LocationTennessee SummaryThe Director of Distribution Center Design is responsible for contributing to the success of new business by managing an engineering team. This executive will be leading the design of new warehouses to meet scope, timeline, budget and customer requirements. The responsibilities include design package, facility layouts, material handling equipment designs, storage media designs, process designs, slotting, pick path analyses, warehouse management systems, warehouse controls system, requirement definitions, capacity plans with noted constraints, warehouse utilization studies, labor models, and staffing plans. Primary Duties· Develops tactical strategies and leads team through project lifecycle to design distribution centers, including high volume facilities, ensuring timely project delivery, cost control and customer satisfaction· Leads development of data driven designs by analyzing client order, SKU and storage data· Conducts gap analysis and ensures issues are resolved· Identifies risks and mitigation plans to reduce exposure and risk on project; communicates such to executives· Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities· Ensures team supports designs with data and calculations· Serves as liaison between customer and company for design projects· Provides guidance and development to team members, fosters a culture of excellence to facilitate increased revenue and customer satisfaction· Serves as expert on material handling equipment and storage media selection, process design and preferred methods, and slotting and sequencing· Examines and validates deliverables prepared by team before delivering to the customer and implementation team· Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors and customers· Supports business development by providing operational expertise and systems knowledge· Challenges others to develop as leaders while serving as a role model and mentor· Researches and maintains knowledge of emerging industry practice· National travel is involved with this position. · Other duties as required and assigned Requirements:Education & Experience: · Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering, Logistics, or Business Management from accredited institution· Minimum 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination education and experience· Must have strong knowledge of warehouse design, material handling equipment and storage media technologies, pick methodology, work measurement, labor management, slotting, and warehouse value added services (i.e., kitting and price labeling)· Excellent analytical/problem solving capabilities and presentation skills required.· Prior supervisory/management experience required.· 20% to 50% travel· Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD· Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) required, knowledge of Red Prairie / JDA WLM and TMS Systems is a plus.
