Feyen Zylstra (FZ) is an Industrial Technology and Electrical Services firm committed to the ongoing growth of its business through strategies that build upon our reputation as an innovative problem solver and an employer of choice. Financial and cultural health is central to our success. Headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI with offices in Charlotte, NC, Charleston, SC; Nashville, TN; Traverse City, MI; and Kalamazoo, MI, FZ’s 550+ employees are focused on the most complex industrial and institutional clients in the Midwest and the Southeastern United States. Successful employees at FZ have a passion for people, a commitment to results, and a desire to be part of a highly functioning team. Our team is data-driven, innovative, collaborative, and committed to the success of those around them.The role will be responsible for project-level financial performance and proper contract management on projects varying in size and complexity. This role interfaces primarily with Electrical Services Project Managers and Account Managers, within a matrix-style team of other project accountants and project coordinators.Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Ensure accurate project set up in ERP system in compliance with reviewed and negotiated contract terms and internal policies and proceduresInfluence and assist in the development of the project schedule of values for proper billing and cash flowReview weekly/monthly labor and material job cost activity reports to ensure accurate and timely costing in line with project scope and expected milestones, and proactively communicate budget to actual variances to Project Managers to assist in risk management and change controlParticipate in various team meetings, such as project milestones and estimate to complete reviews, and provide analytical insight, support, and accountability for accuracy of financial reportingProcess large project AIA pay applications in accordance with billing terms of customer contractsReview and reconcile change order documentation to ensure proper accounting treatment and reportingSupport for Project Coordinator team in obtaining and coordinating project documentation, such as insurance certification, prevailing wage labor reports, lien waivers, lien releases, and sworn statements to align with contract documentation requirements, as well as comply with terms specific to document retentionAssist with weekly/monthly project and branch unit level forecasting for job cost, revenue, and cash flow through the month-end close process and beyondProvide ad hoc cost accounting support and financial analysis of labor and material mix on current and future projects to drive accurate costing for Project Managers and EstimatorsPerform lookback analysis on projects to support the estimating function with updated job cost trends while improving the project turnover processAnalyze past-due accounts receivable balances to lead and/or perform collection activities in line with company policies and communicate status to Project Accounting Manager and Branch DirectorsSupport project closeout efforts of the completed contract to ensure proper accounting treatment, as well as assess any related warranty risks and handoff to FZ Services team memberPerform ad hoc analysis or complete special projects as requested by Electrical Services Business Unit Directors, Market Leaders and Executive Vice President as well as, the Corporate Controller and/or CFO.?Key Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business required, CPA a plusMinimum 4-5 years of experience in accounting or finance-related role requiredExperience with project-level accounting and financial analysis preferredKnowledge of standard contract terms applied within construction billing a plusExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong problem-solving and analysis skillsAbility to work effectively and efficiently as an integral member of a business unit team, as well as the finance and accounting team, in a fast-paced environment where priorities could change dailyStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAdvanced working knowledge of Microsoft ExcelDemonstrated professionalism, positive attitude, and customer focus (internal and external)The ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, along with the ability to remain calm and professional under stressWe offer generous benefits, competitive compensation, paid time off, training and development, the opportunity for growth, a safe work environment, and the chance to work with a winning team in a great company culture.
