As a Senior Associate, Chemistry - Disruptive Innovation you will be responsible for the technical development and/or external sourcing of new formulations across multiple SCJ categories.

You will develop new products, line extensions, and technology advancements to meet the needs of our consumers. You will be part of a highly collaborative cross-functional team that emphasizes empathy, entrepreneurship, and results.
You will have the opportunity to independently, with minimal oversight.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create products our consumers love.  Formulate new products and product changes, assist in leading technology advancements, and competitive assessments which result in new consumer benefits, reduced cost or improved environmental impact. Ensure formulations meet internal ingredient standards and industry best practices for safety, sustainability, scientific significance, accuracy, and recordkeeping

Help create a better work environment. Collaborate with multifunctional core teams (R&D, Design, Marketing, Marketing Research, and Product Supply) to successfully develop and launch new products - quickly.

Be a scientist.  Apply sound scientific principles to the development of new formulations.

Apply your expertise.  Apply your working knowledge of formulation science to improve the products we make.

Drive for results.  Provide ideas, expertise, and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach

Use your network, and ours.  Leverage external resources (patent literature, suppliers, etc.) to find applicable new technologies


Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

Bachelors degree in Chemistry or related field with at least 4 years relevant work experience OR an advanced degree in Chemistry or related field and at least 2 years relevant work experience.

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States


Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:
Excellent ability to work with cross functional teams – to influence, push, encourage, listen to, celebrate, trust, and unleash them to do what they do best. Teams typically include Marketing, Consumer Insight, Design, Legal, Regulatory, Product Supply.

Loves to tinker – with processes, products, and technology – because they enjoy it and it helps produce continuous improvement.

Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various formulation and delivery system technologies (e.g., aerosol formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, polymer chemistry, reaction products, surfactants, solvents, builders).

Understands the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients.

Possesses an understanding of product development in regulated categories, such as pesticides and biocides.

Experience with directing the efforts of external vendors and consultants

Working knowledge of Design of Experiments.  Comfortable developing unorthodox testing methods and techniques.

Strong willingness to figure out something they don’t understand, simplify complex situations, and remove barriers by challenging assumptions and recommending alternative courses of action.

Possesses a bias for action – prefers to get started, explore, and figure out what is possible.

Follows-through on commitments.  Once a task is started, takes ownership and ensures that the job is done correctly.

Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written presentation, including effective storytelling to the non-technical individual.

Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty.  Identifies and communicates risks and develops mitigation and response strategies.

Starts and ends interactions with Empathy.  Capable of seeing a problem from a different perspective, and welcoming diverse perspectives.

Understands how to develop products for a consumer market, including consumer testing techniques.  Appreciates and embraces the ultimate goal of delighting the consumer.
