Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Utility Operator / Public Works Laborer performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work. Primary job functions include assisting with the maintenance and operation of the water and wastewater utilities. Other job duties for this position will include a variety of tasks such as operating and maintaining various pieces of equipment, streets, sidewalks, cemetery, parks, municipal buildings, storm water collection system and the sanitary sewer collection system, snow plowing, and other miscellaneous duties that may be required for this position.

Essential Job Duties:

â?¢ Performs maintenance and repair tasks in municipal buildings and facilities to include assisting in monthly inspections of: safety equipment, and park structures and playground equipment.
â?¢ Ability to read blue prints and schematics and perform maintenance on all water and sewer-related components, streets and sidewalks, and curb & gutter
â?¢ Ability to read blue prints and schematics and perform maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, plumbing, chemical feed systems, electrical controls, generators, vehicles and other related equipment.
â?¢ Operates and maintains dump truck, snow plow, tractor, street sweeper, air compressor, mowers, utility trucks, brush chipper, paint striper, welders and power tools.
â?¢ Performs infrastructure maintenance and repairs to include, but not limited to the water distribution system, meter stations, and pump houses, wastewater treatment plant, lift stations and collection system, street and sidewalk repair, sign repair, and catch basin and manhole repair, as well minor road repair and patching.
â?¢ Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and equipment such as multi-meters, various welders, chain saw, concrete saw, steamer, calipers, table saw, circular saw, sand blaster and power sprayer, etcâ?¦
â?¢ Performs landscaping tasks to include mowing grass, sweeping, raking, and trimming trees, shrubs, and weeds.
â?¢ Assist the water and wastewater operators as needed or directed.
â?¢ Monitors the SCADA system for the water, wastewater, and collection system and troubleshoot problems that may arise.
â?¢ Prepare routine records on work and equipment, and complete data entry on SCADA computer.
â?¢ Perform all work functions in an efficient manner while maintaining the highest quality service possible, and while following the proper procedures for workplace safety.
â?¢ Perform any other related duties that are not listed here that may be required for this position, or as assigned by the Superintendent of Public Works and Utilities.

Additional Requirements:

â?¢ Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license, and have a valid Wisconsin CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months from hire date.

â?¢ Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and physical.
â?¢ Subject to random drug testing as part of the Brown County drug testing program.
â?¢ Must pass a background check.
â?¢ Must successfully complete a six (6) month probationary period.
â?¢ Is required to plow snow during winter operations.
â?¢ Required to be part of the weekly on call rotation and work scheduled overtime on weekends and holidays.
â?¢ Required to respond to after hour emergencies that include, but not limited to water main breaks, service leaks, water well and lift station alarms, or snow plowing.
â?¢ Ability to perform basic math functions.
â?¢ Ability to communicate in a professional manner at all times while conducting Village business.
â?¢ Required to carry Village provided cell phone while on duty and while on call rotation.
â?¢ Perform quarterly water readings at all customer locations.

Experience, Education, and Training Required:

â?¢ A High School diploma or GED, and at least three (3) years of quality experience in the public works, water, wastewater, electrical, plumbing or maintenance fields. Certification in Plumbing, Maintenance or Electricity is desired.
â?¢ Possession of a WDNR water system certification subclass G-groundwater and D-distribution, or the ability to obtain certifications within one year of hire date is desirable, but not required.
â?¢ Basic computer skills and knowledge with using Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience with SCADA systems.

Minimum Physical Abilities Required Performing Essential Job Functions:

â?¢ Work in outdoor settings and in varied weather conditions.
â?¢ Ability to lift loads up to eighty pounds.
â?¢ Ability to climb ladders, water towers, and enter confined spaces.
â?¢ Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, fax, telephone, and copy machine.
â?¢ Work will require the ability to sit, stand, or walk for up to eight hours.
â?¢ Ability to operate and use hand tools, motorized vehicles and equipment.

New employees must either live in the Village or live within a twenty (20) minute response time by the end of nine (9) months following the completion of a six (6) month probationary period (total 15 months).

Due to a recent position opening, the Village of Wrightstown Department of Public Works and Utilities is accepting applications for the position of Utility Operator / Public Works Laborer. The primary job duties for this position include serving as the water system operator. Secondary responsibilities will include assisting in water system operations and public works operations as needed. Other duties include but not limited to plowing snow, operating and maintaining various pumps, motors, and equipment within the department. The successful candidate will be required to respond to infrastructure emergencies and be put on the weekly on-call rotation, which includes scheduled weekends and holidays. The candidate will possess a valid Wisconsin CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months from hire. This position has a twelve-month probationary period. The Village offers a competitive starting wage ranging from $22.45-$23.35/hour, a comprehensive benefit package including; medical benefit plan, Wisconsin Retirement Plan, deferred compensation, life insurance, voluntary dental and vision plan, paid holidays, vacations and sick leave. Scheduled working hours are Monday-Friday 7am to 3:30pm for Fall/Winter and 6am-3:30pm Monday-Thursday and 7am-11am on Fridays during the Summer. Five years of quality experience in the water or maintenance fields, a job related to the public works and utilities and /or an Associate Degree in Wastewater Technology desired but not required. Qualifications for this position include having, or the ability to obtain Wisconsin Ground Water and Distribution Certification. Residential inspection experience is also desired but not required.
