Lead Test Engineer

KBR is seeking a Lead Test Engineer to provide leadership and supervision for test engineering and other technical support of operations and maintenance of hypobaric/environmental chambers and human centrifuge, and for aerospace physiology and human performance related research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) and aircrew training operations at Brooks, San Antonio, TX.

Duties will include oversight of electronic/mechanical operations for chamber setup, special test equipment setup, chamber maintenance and operation, system upgrades, configuration of computerized and network connected operation control systems, data collection and reduction systems, including improvements, troubleshooting and repair, routine maintenance, assurance of instrumentation calibration and other duties and tasks as required. Incumbent will serve as lead engineer overseeing junior engineering personnel and technicians in support of principle investigators and test leads.

This is a full-time position

May require occasional shift work, evenings and weekends


  • Develop or implement methodology for the analytical measurement of pressure, flow, temperature, gas concentration and other data as required in aerospace life support systems
  • Develop or implement operate control-software to improve operational consistency, reduce required manpower, operator error, and project time
  • Assist junior engineer, investigators and test leads in preparation of technical reports for publication in professional journals
  • Provide collaborative assistance to research scientists that require the incumbent's expertise
  • Assist technical staff with maintenance, replacement and upgrades to IT systems used for data acquisition and operations control
  • Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and validate any manual and automated test equipment
  • Develop test documentation, test plans, fixture specifications and operational procedures

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar field with at least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Light to medium level of project management and equipment/capital management
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a fast-paced team environment
  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Apply technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturer's literature, manuals, schematics and similar documents
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel

Desired Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • M.S. Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar field with at least two years of experience working in the aerospace physiology RDT&E and aircrew training field
  • Data acquisition experience using LabVIEW or similar application
  • Experience with human use research and with IRB review standards and processes
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet and TCP/IP networking concepts
  • Proficient in instrumentation used for data collection such as thermocouples, RTDs, pressure transducers, flow meters and mass spectrometer
  • Have experience using various test equipment for collection, measurement, troubleshooting and evaluation of data such as power supplies, DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Power Meters, and Frequency Generators
