Make a difference for national security by joining a team of dedicated professionals in El Segundo, CA who assist the US Air Force in developing and deploying the next generation of satellites and ground systems for missile warning (MW) and space-based environmental monitoring (SBEM). These systems alert senior military officials when missile launches occur around the globe, as well as enable global naval vessel and troop movements by providing mission-critical weather data to ensure safe passage.

The KBR Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team has an immediate need for a Ground Systems Engineer with experience in Department of Defense (DoD) ground systems. This opportunity can be in Aurora, CO or Boulder, CO.


  • This individual will be responsible for systems engineering associated with the Future OPIR Resilient Ground Evolution (FORGE) Command & Control space assets.
  • Provide critical ground systems engineering and integration expertise in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center’s (SMC) SBEM and MW programs.
  • Manage C2 requirements baseline and associated changes.
  • Manage C2 Component Integration and Test
  • Coordinate with USG Customer and Developer Contractors
  • Coordinate with Lead Development Test Organization (LDTO) to ensure C2 functionality is ready for next level system test.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science or Engineering.
  • 8+ Years of demonstrated system engineering experience with space, ground, operations, and sustainment segments of DoD or NRO programs with a proven delivery record.
  • Experience with system acquisition, systems engineering lifecycle, architecture, operations concepts, requirements and interface development and maturation for space and ground systems.
  • Experience with open architecture ground system development efforts throughout a system engineering lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with space and/or ground systems.
  • Experience with ground system requirements and interface management, risk management, change boards and change board environment.
  • Experience providing technical analyses, architecture trade-studies, and program management support to a government customer.
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Math, Science or Engineering.
  • OPIR and SBEM Mission experience is highly desirable.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience using Sparx Enterprise Architect or other comparable tools.
  • Experience with cloud computing.

Security Clearance Requirements: Must have active TS/SCI clearance.

Basic Compensation:

$93,000 - $123,000

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
