Make a difference for national security by joining a team of dedicated professionals in El Segundo, CA who assist the U.S. Air Force and Space Force in developing and deploying the next generation of satellites and ground systems for missile warning (MW) and space-based environmental monitoring (SBEM). These systems alert senior military officials when missile launches occur around the globe, as well as enable global naval vessel and troop movements by providing mission-critical weather data to ensure safe passage.

The KBR Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team has a need for a Systems Engineer to act as our Software Lead to provide engineering and technical advisory and support to the Space and Missile Systems Center. The position requires an individual with expertise and experience in technical programs, technical program management, and agile software development. The candidate will provide technical and acquisition support to Government and contractor milestone reviews to assess progress, issues, and meeting mission requirements traceability.


  • Serve as a Technical Lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external team members.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the existing content supply portfolio of applications and services.
  • Design, develop, modify, implement, and support software components anywhere in the Software stack.
  • Determine root cause for the most complex software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.
  • Remain current on new technologies and available vendor packages; evaluate and make recommendations as necessary.
  • Assist in task planning, estimation, scheduling, and staffing.
  • Mentor Software Engineers to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, and training opportunities.
  • Determine process improvements, best practices, and develop new processes.
  • Work in close partnership with cross-functional teams and management
  • Work with various languages (e.g., C++, C, .NET, Java, etc.) and applications, enhancing and migrating applications to the Cloud Computing Environments (CCE)
  • Collaborate with other Agile Team members and engineers both internal and external for software development activities and general integration.
  • Develop cloud-computing concepts, and work with potential application migration customers within the DoD community.
  • Develop software using an Agile development environment, using various SecDevOps tools, such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket (Git), Jenkins, and Docker

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ Experience managing & executing DT&E for space & ground.
  • Experience providing SE&I support or similar.
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree
  • Experience in acquisition and program management within the Air Force community
  • Space control mission area experience and extensive experience in acquisitions and contract planning
  • Prior Military Service
  • Expertise managing or overseeing a development operations or software intensive development program.

Security Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
