Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Athletic Trainer I to join our team in the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC), Portsmouth VA supporting the Warfighter Wellness department.

The Navy & Marine Corps Public Health Center Warfighter Wellness department is implementing the Wellness and Readiness (WaR), Pregnancy & Postpartum Physical Training (P3T) and Physical Optimization & Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention efforts to ensure Warfighter Readiness.  Developing, deploying and evaluating holistic wellness programs throughout the entire Department of the Navy relies on the unique skills demonstrated by Athletic Trainers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the assessment of Health/Wellness needs and improvements to services.
  • Contribute to Health/Wellness program development, solicit input from team members and create opportunities to engage in Health/Wellness topics.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and educational materials as they are used.
  • Produce training programs for Wellness and Readiness facilitators throughout the Navy community.
  • Collect and analyze data to learn about the population and improve programs and services
  • Work with program administrators and content experts to improve Warfighter Wellness and Health Promotion and Wellness policies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in athletic training, exercise physiology or other closely related degree.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience as an Athletic Trainer/Health Coach conducting individual and group interventions AND Certification/Licensure by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and/or Health Coach certification from another recognized agency.
  • Knowledge and experience developing, delivering and evaluating individual and group holistic wellness intervention programs based on social and behavioral science theories, such as the health belief model and trans-theoretical models.
  • Expertise drafting of policy, regulations, instructions, standards, and guidelines related to wellness program issues.
  • Effective communication and public speaking skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of individual, group and community level wellness programing and Patient Centered Care/Medical Home philosophies and practice in military health care.
  • Experience developing and analyzing needs assessments for program planning, assessing wellness/health status, identifying wellness/health risks, identifying resources, cost containment, and establishing priorities for holistic prevention and intervention programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with Healthy Eating, Active Living, Tobacco Free Living, Reproductive and Sexual Health, Psychological and Emotional Well?being, Injury and Violence Free living, Preventing Drug Abuse & Excessive Alcohol Use and Chronic Disease Prevention as they relate to Warfighter Wellness.
  • Experience organizing, and participating in multidisciplinary teams that assess risk, conduct needs assessments, analyze data, develop content for educational programs, draft policy guidance, and evaluate outcome measures.

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. While facilitating fitness interventions, this person would be expected to position themselves according to applicable workout routines, stretches, etc. May be required to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across and/or around a business campus or large facility.
