Senior Systems Engineer

KBR seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to provide the technical expertise to develop and implement spacecraft flight dynamics systems and tools that supports the mission operations for the Space Science Mission Operations (SSMO) project at NASA.

The Senior Systems Engineer will work with complex systems, designing, developing, and integrating them with existing flight dynamics system in Mission Operations Centers (MOC) at every stage of its life cycle, and training the operations staff on using the systems.


  • Develop a deep understanding of spacecraft onboard components, ground flight dynamics systems and tools being used by SSMO MOCs.
  • Identify areas where satellite operations accuracy and efficiency can be improved. Address these areas by proposing new procedures and/or develop new flight dynamics systems and tools.
  • Engage with NASA systems engineers and flight operations staff regularly with reports on analysis and development status, activities, and achievements.
  • Support flight dynamics operations for SSMO missions.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to identify what they want a system to accomplish.
  • Familiarize with COTS and GOTS systems and tools in support for satellite flight dynamics.
  • Develop systems and tools that improve satellite flight control
  • Support SSMO missions with regards to NASA Conjunction Assessment Risk Analysis (CARA) data and report
  • Troubleshoot issues with satellite maneuver, orbit determination and altitude control
  • Analyze reaction wheel torque
  • Analyze gyro performance

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or similar field
  • 10 + years of experience as systems engineer or closely related discipline


  • Knowledge of the spacecraft lifecycle (I&T, operations, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting spacecraft anomalies, whether as part of design, testing, or operations
  • Previous experience using STK or GMAT
  • Experience writing MATLAB scripts to analyze data
  • Must be able to use writing scripts or programs in at least one other scripting/programming language (e.g., shell scripting, C++, Perl, Python, java, etc.)
  • Ability to provide technical presentations to management
  • Experience analyzing overall performance of a spacecraft's Attitude Control System (ACS) and performance or health of some sub-component(s) of a spacecraft's attitude control system (e.g., reaction wheels, star tracker, gyros, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience working with others to diagnose and/or solve technical problems
  • Exhibited experience quickly learning--preferably self-taught--new technical skill(s)
  • Ability to work independently for extended stints.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Preferred Education:

Master’s Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or similar field
