This Emergency Essential ( EE ) position is in the KBR Shipboard Department for the APS-3 program, located on the Goose Creek Naval Weapons Station, Joint Base Charleston.

KBR executes a contract for the US Army to provide Maintenance and Logistics services for the Army Prepositioned War Stock Set #3 (APS-3) at the Army Field Support Battalion – Charleston. The Shipboard Department consists of approximately 30 employees, some are land based at APS-3, but most are permanently performing duties aboard five Large Medium Speed Roll-on/Roll-off (LMSR) ships located in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean theaters of operation. Mechanics provide Field Level Maintenance and surveillance on the full spectrum U.S. Military combat and tactical weapons systems, as well as other supporting equipment elements stored on board the vessel.

KBR is seeking highly qualified mechanics with automotive maintenance training and experience to serve aboard our ships. Certifications and proof of qualifications should be provided with resume at the time of application. Position Description (per SCA Directory of Occupations):

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following: Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; removal and replacement of engine or other engine components; removal and replacement of transmissions and transfer cases; repairing fuel injection issues, lighting, and ignition systems and various other electrical issues as diagnosed. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. This position requires computer literacy.

General Responsibilities:

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic is a seasoned and trained mechanic that will perform field level automotive maintenance on all US Government owned automotive, tactical, and combat equipment aboard ship. Tasks include but are not limited to: surveillance, test and exercise, troubleshoot, diagnose, research technical manuals and perform all repairs that are capable of being executed in the environment’s configuration. Uses government furnished special tools, property, and spaces aboard ship to perform responsibilities for researching parts identification and requisition, servicing and repair in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times. Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with government regulations and local policies

Properly use, store, account for, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste used and generated in the performance of duties. Perform movement of materiel and assets with forklifts and dollies. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

This position is a Shipboard Deployable Position with specific requirements:

  • Must meet deployment qualifications and maintain deployable status.
  • Upon notification from the government, deploys to support issuing or receipt of equipment to gaining activity.
  • Must meet government specified requirements to be shipboard deployable: including pre-deployment and annual health screenings, pre-deployment and annual training requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Must obtain and maintain local base access
  • Shall possess one of the following: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification (any series); formerly held equivalent Military Occupation Specialization of Construction Equipment Repairer, Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic, or Tracked Vehicle Mechanic; or, experience of at least six years as a mechanic.
  • Prior military maintenance training and experience on tactical and combat vehicles a plus
  • Must demonstrate ability to comply with all established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position
  • Must demonstrated ability to interpret and apply technical instruction, schematics, and diagrams
  • Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License.
  • ASE Certified in A or T series is a plus
  • Knowledge of U.S. Army TM 38-470, DA PAM 750-8, and AR 750-1 is also desirable.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • ?Physical requirements include lifting up to 35lb, team lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, extended sitting, or standing, stooping, stretching, and bending.
  • ?Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as, hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots as well as Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) which may include but not limited to Level III plus/IV Individual Body Armor with both front and back ballistic plates, ACH helmet, clothing (undergarments, shirts and pants and/or coveralls), reflective vests/belts, sound suppression devices, etc.
  • ?Day-to-day physical requirements may involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs. frequently, etc.
  • ?Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking up stairs.
