Description: Aviation Safety Resources, Inc., (ASR), based in Nicholasville, Kentucky, designs, tests, and produces Aircraft Emergency Parachute Recovery Systems (AEPRS) designed to bring down an entire aircraft and its occupants in the event of an in-air emergency. We are looking for parachute riggers. The parachute rigger supervises or packs and repairs parachutes, and rigs equipment and containers. Essential duties include inspection, packing, parachutes, and associated equipment. Completes final assembly operations such as tying lines. Inspects parachutes and other equipment during packing and rigging, and at prescribed intervals to determine serviceability. Repairs or replaces equipment. Uses and maintains machines and tools for fabrication, modification, and repair of parachutes and other equipment in a production setting.

Reports to: Production Manager

Function and Objective: Performs duties in packing and final assembly of parachutes at a skill level necessary to assure equipment function. Provides technical guidance as needed. Inspects parachutes and associated equipment. Conducts sampling and quality assurance technical inspection. Verifies and keeps records on outgoing parachutes and prepares items for shipment. This is an hourly position.

Essential Functions: Position is focused on folding parachutes according to specifications and packs chutes in bag or canister: Draws canopy of parachute from pack cover to its full length on surface of long bench. The parachute rigger must be very accurate. The incumbent must possess is alertness regarding safety procedures and hazardous materials. The essential job functions include the following:
â?¢ Straightens shrouds to eliminate coils or tangles
â?¢ Folds canopy lengthwise on its seams, one segment over another
â?¢ Loops each shroud and forces it into retaining clip of pack cover
â?¢ Folds canopy in fanfold arrangement and places in pack cover
â?¢ Inspects canopy, shroud, buckles, and harness straps for damage or wear
â?¢ Preferred candidate will be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration. May be designated a Senior or Master Rigger (air transportation) when additionally qualified through experience to meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements
â?¢ Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment
â?¢ Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding
â?¢ Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers
â?¢ Routes items to departments
â?¢ Updates ERP system in a timely and accurate manner
â?¢ Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
â?¢ May operate tier-lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping-and-receiving platform to storage or work area
â?¢ Reads and assembles per drawings instructions without guidance.
â?¢ Able to perform complex parachute assembly tasks
â?¢ May track and receive the required parts for product area
â?¢ May check stock bins for adequate supplies of sub-assemblies, and parts
â?¢ Contact's material handler or lead if shortages exist or incorrect parts are in bins.
â?¢ May pack finished product into designated carton
â?¢ Maintains clean and safe working environment in line with company policies
â?¢ May perform other duties as assigned (I.e., general cleaning, painting, facility maintenance, etc.)

Accountability: This position exists within the production department. As a Parachute Rigger, you will be responsible for the safety of the men, women, and equipment entrusted to the parachutes you pack. This requires an incredible attention to detail as parachutes of varying sizes must be precisely packed and maintained. In addition to packing parachutes, you will take responsibility for maintaining the materials of the parachute as well. This includes patching, sewing, and storage of the parachutes, packs, and web gear. Reporting to the production manager, accountable to support the contract requirements including:
â?¢ Determines methods and sequence of operations, services, maintains, tests and inspects parachutes for conformance to specifications, Company, and customer requirements
â?¢ Makes complete check of parachute
â?¢ Makes corrections, adjustments and repairs on parachutes and their accessories as required
â?¢ Packs, repairs, checks, adjusts, and installs parachutes and accessories that are component parts
â?¢ Inspects all types of parachutes periodically for airworthiness as defined by FAA and/or Company specifications and manufactures' manuals. Unpacks parachutes as required, repairs, or replaces damaged, worn, or broken components, and repacks parachutes

â?¢ Disassembles, replaces parts, cleans, lubricates, reassembles and packs parachutes as required
â?¢ Assists Engineering and other authorized Company and vendor personnel in the modification, adjustment, and alteration of parachutes, etc., and in the correction of malfunctioning items
â?¢ Notifies supervisor when major discrepancies occur, or substitutions have been made
â?¢ Maintains other records.

â?¢ Respect's confidentiality and complies with company policies & procedures.
Qualifications: Under minimal supervision, assembles components by examining connections for correct fit, fastening parts, and sub-assemblies, per customer order. Is able to perform semi-routine tasks that are non-standard or varied without assistance. The incumbent receives work instruction from the production manager and refers problems to the production manager. The incumbent cannot change policy or procedures without permission from the production manager and must exhibit an understanding of parachute production processes, including:
â?¢ At least 3 -6 years relevant job experience
â?¢ Ability to read and understand English
â?¢ Operate hand tools, electrical tools, hand cutters, measuring equipment and light equipment
â?¢ Experience in intricate hand assembly
â?¢ Basic mechanical knowledge
â?¢ Experience and ability to operate measuring equipment
â?¢ Willing to perform any task necessary to ensure the on-time delivery of the product to the customer
â?¢ Willing to cross-train and work in all areas of assembly operation
â?¢ Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
â?¢ Good communication skills required
â?¢ Detail oriented and able to maintain high accuracy standards
â?¢ Must be a self-starter and able to operate effectively as a team member with minimal supervision
â?¢ Willingness to work overtime as required
â?¢ Possess a positive attitude, action orientated, and results driven
â?¢ Influential in getting tasks accomplished
â?¢ Excellent interpersonal skills
â?¢ High school graduation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
