Full Stack Web Developer for NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information

We are seeking a full-stack Web Developer to join our web development team to support both front and back end development. The successful candidate will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) in Asheville, North Carolina. This position requires a professional with technical skills and a passion for being a member of a team. The ideal candidate will exhibit a hands-on, can-do attitude and approach their work with vigor and determination. The position will:

  • Work with team members to implement business, technical, and functional requirements
  • Assist with website administration, including updating Drupal core and contributed modules, implementing hotfixes, and monitoring website security and performance
  • Troubleshoot coding issues, implement bug fixes, and be involved in code reviews
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with HTML/JavaScript
  • Proficiency with object-oriented PHP
  • Proficiency with Git, build tools
  • Proficiency with Drupal 8 and familiarity with Drupal 9
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing and customizing Drupal 8 custom modules
  • Proficiency with CSS/SASS

  • Familiarity with Agile development process
  • Experience with database management and MySQL/MariaDB
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Puppet or some other automation/configuration management software
  • Familiarity with Jira, Trello or other issue/project tracking software
  • Proficiency with revision control/deployment/CI/CD tools
  • Familiarity with Docker, containers
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and practices
  • Familiarity with React and GraphQL

Education

  • Degree in Computer Science or comparable experience desired
