TSSC LANDFIRE Project Manager

KBR is seeking someone familiar with the fire science community and interested in project management to lead contractor support of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) contributions to the LANDFIRE (https://landfire.gov/index.php) program. LANDFIRE is shared between the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and U.S. Department of the Interior's wildland fire management bureaus under the direction of the Wildland Fire Leadership Council (WFLC). It produces a comprehensive, consistent, scientifically based suite of spatial layers and databases for the entire United States and territories, providing consistent national inventory data for improving the prioritization of fuel projects and communities.

KBR (https://www.kbr.com/en) , headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the primary contractor to the USGS for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/eros) ) Center near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org) . Job Description:

The USGS EROS Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) Science Division is seeking to serve the LANDFIRE program with a project management role preferably anchored in fire or a related science. The position provides administration, staff management, and coordination of project work within the multi-faceted LANDFIRE program, interacting not only with a geographically dispersed EROS team but also with its external technical and leadership partners.

The TSSC LANDFIRE Project Lead will catalyze versatile and talented teams of scientists and engineers to fulfill USGS goals within well-managed schedule and budget definitions. This role oversees management of production, research, and communications teams and is supported by expert staff leading each area.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of the LANDFIRE project
  • Organize, direct, and supervise staff priorities and tasks to ensure USGS goals are understood and fulfilled
  • Interface with USGS customers and related project collaborators
  • Facilitate communication within the TSSC team and with other EROS TSSC Project Managers

Requirements :

  • Minimum 3 years residence in the U.S.
  • Strong leadership skills that can engage staff, TSSC managers, and USGS customers to ensure project success
  • Ownership, organization, and prioritization of multiple tasks
  • Adaptability to circumstances while meeting strategic goals
  • Ability to effectively communicate project status, obstacles, and deliverables to a range of audiences
  • Commitment to enabling staff strengths to efficiently meet project needs
  • Willingness to cultivate productive relationships and mentor staff

Desired Skills :

  • Broad understanding of the USGS EROS mission
  • Familiarity with the fire science community
  • Knowledge of science and/or project management topics
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Atlassian, Microsoft Teams, or Sharepoint
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts
  • Preferred work locations are USGS/EROS in Sioux Falls, SD or the LANDFIRE offices in Missoula, MT as permitted by COVID-19 restrictions
