Global Economic SME

  • Global Economic SMEs must be knowledgeable of, and able to speak authoritatively on, all aspects of their assigned mission area
  • Conduct analysis of data, perform assessment, and document findings. Examples include: identification of operational shortfalls, risks, vulnerabilities, and capability gaps; identification of factors leading to progression toward/regression from Campaign objectives; identification of military and strategic risks, vulnerabilities; and doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership and education, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF) gaps.
  • Participate and articulate J7 position and equities in various Assessment Cell communities of interest (COI) and HQ boards, bureaus, centers, cells, and working groups (B2C2WG).
  • In support of Joint Staff and OSD Strategic Assessment requirements, provide analysis, perspective, and assessments on behalf of the Command. These assessments are generally recurring and require intense data collection efforts and in-depth analysis using both qualitative and quantitative techniques
  • Effectively build relationships across the Command and with counterparts at Combatant Commands, Services, and other government agencies to support information gathering and coordination for strategic assessment efforts.
  • Develop information papers, reports, and briefings in support of strategic assessments, ensuring findings align with other ongoing assessment/analysis efforts and adjudicating conflicts that arise.


  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business administration or equivalent that include successful completion of macro and micro economic, and international finance course work.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in the field of economics in the public and/or private sector.
  • Prior experience in economic education, Combatant Command/MAJCOM and/or non-DoD federal or state government agencies such as Department of the Treasury, Department of State, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, etc. is highly desirable
  • Security Clearance: TS/SCI
