More Than a Job
We're hiring for a Tax Principal for our New York City office. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
-Takes a lead role in one of our specific practice areas, specifically real estate and high net worth, and is viewed as a "subject matter expert" who can be contacted by internal and external sources
-Develops strong, long-term relationships with senior-level client contacts in providing ongoing counsel and strategic support
-Identifies and promotes new business opportunities within our core capabilities
-Addresses questions on advanced technical tax matters from team members and upper-level client management
-Identifies tax risk management issues and proposes potential solutions through research and collaboration with Engagement Partner
-Works with Engagement Senior Manager/Manager to oversee review process of tax procedures
-Works with Engagement Senior Manager/Manager to oversee thorough review of tax workpapers on a timely basis and assures tax evidence is in accordance with firm's documentation standards
-Challenges the client, where appropriate, on the quality of their financial data to ensure the integrity of the tax work performed
-Demonstrates an ability to critically assess reliability of client information and planned tax approach throughout the engagement
-Advanced level tax review and research skills
-Oversees engagement workflow and monitors that tasks are assigned and completed on a timely basis
-Manages several engagements with a wide oversight of work in their specific area
-Reviews client tax returns and research as final approver
-Contains expert knowledge of applicable tax software (e.g., ProSystem, XCM, BNA, RIA, Engagement, Tax, etc.)
-Works in collaboration with Senior Manager/Manager leads planning and execution of client engagement
-Identifies opportunities to leverage staff including designing staffing structure of engagement and monitoring time versus budget allocated
-Leads medium to large sized engagements, with finalized document and report requiring minimal Partner oversight
-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field is required
-9+ years' experience in a similar role
-5+ years' supervisory experience in a similar role
-Prior experience managing engagements and clients
-Licensed CPA or admission to a State Bar
-Ability to work independently, but also work well with others
-Strong technical and broad based advisory and client management skills
-Formal mentoring relationships with all levels of staff
-Master's in Taxation or Accounting
-Experience with pass through entities, business structuring, and nonprofit would be a plus
-Takes the lead role in practice area meetings and develops new ideas and strategic initiatives
-Stays current on technical and industry developments and standards while evaluating potential impact on client engagements
-Become a leader in a tax niche
-Software Experience - CCH ProSystem, Microsoft Office 365
