Job Summary

AECOM is hiring a Mechanical HVAC Engineer for our Buildings + Places practice in the NYC/NJ metro area to assist the Mechanical Engineering group with design work and fieldwork on varied building types. The individual can be located in either the New York City or Clifton, NJ office however, must be willing to travel into NYC as needed for project coordination/meetings. The individual will be responsible for sizing ducts, performing HVAC calculations, and performing field surveys of existing conditions. This position also requires the candidate to be able to interact with clients, contractors, and architects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Performing mechanical design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

  • Performing engineering-related calculations and develop drawings.

  • Willing and able to survey and evaluate existing conditions in order to formulate a fully coordinated scope of work within code-compliant mechanical designs.

  • Working under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and 4+ years of related experience, which includes experience and skills in mechanical systems design for buildings.

  • AutoCAD and Revit experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building design for transportation, commercial, hospitality, education, hi-rise buildings.

  • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • LEED accredited professional

  • A registered engineer in training or professional engineer (PE)

  • Experience building HVAC infrastructure including but not limited to chilled water systems, condensing water systems, CHRP, thermal distribution, hot water, steam, and airside systems.

  • Experience with sustainable design and energy efficiency projects

  • Experience with Design-Build and other Alternative Delivery practices

  • Demonstrated understanding of Mechanical/HVAC systems for transportation, federal, corporate, commercial, educational, medical laboratory, and sport facilities

  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently

  • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to bring energy and enthusiasm to the office
