Responsibilities:

  • Direct design of complex track arrangements including turnouts, special track work and rail yards.

  • Prepare construction documents

  • Manage task budgets and schedules

  • Supervise 2-3 junior rail engineers/designers

  • Ability to direct and/or work with various multi-disciplined teams is essential to this role.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology

  • 6 plus years in the conceptual and detailed design of rail transit and railroad alignments including profiles, cross-sections, track work component design, and layout.

  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Excel / Word, Micro Station and relevant industry design software

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to design complex track arrangements including turnouts, special track work, and rail yards is desired

  • North Carolina Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain through reciprocity

  • Working understanding of NCDOT Rail Division’s guidelines/procedures/plan preparation

  • Experience with Class I railways (especially CSX and Norfolk Southern) design, project engineering, project management

  • Ability to scope/estimate complex rail/track projects

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and communication skills requiring client interaction
