Job Summary

As an Assistant Project Manager you will be expected to work with the Senior PM or Associate PM Director to successfully manage and deliver capital investment projects. The focus of management activities will be to provide financial management, analysis and reports to Projects.

Job Duties:

Detailed Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Manages one or more moderately complex project, involving a combination of the following:

  • Clients with a regional geographic footprint; OR,

  • Projects involving multiple services provided by regional IE offices; OR,

  • Other complexities, such as projects that involve litigation, environmental protection, due diligence, etc.

  • May manage all phases of projects (from beginning to close out).

  • Works mostly independently but receives basic instruction on specific assignments, objectives, complex features and possible solutions.

  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

  • May supervise: senior level engineers (all disciplines applicable), as well as project administration, project controls, scheduling, cost control, estimating and procurement representatives.

Financial Management:

  • Support and oversight of Financial Management of Projects, including direct liaison with the project managers, project accountants and B+P leadership

  • Provide financial reports and presentations to support understanding on financial performance on Projects

  • Prepare comparisons between actual costs and budgets, identify and analyse anomalies, propose actions and follow up through to resolution.

  • Complete reconciliations between financial systems and assure correct financial performance is represented in the reporting system

  • Develop, as necessary, standard templates to support monthly/quarterly Project reporting

  • Support annual financial planning process

  • Support regular project reviews, encompassing commercial and contractual review as well as detailed project financials

  • Work with project accountants to understand financial status of projects. Identify any areas of concern

  • Attend and support reviews from finance of major or high-risk projects.

  • Ensure that the company’s internal controls are consistently applied

  • Track project performance and cash flow, perform earned value analysis.

  • Support B+P bid work as necessary

  • Support B+P in terms of claims and variations on projects

  • Assist Project Managers in contract close-out

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety - work with H&S Managers to ensure policies and procedures are implemented

  • Bid Development - Acquire and maintain an intimate knowledge and understanding of standard contract documentation and support bids as necessary

  • Reporting - Provide Project Managers with commercial / financial support as required. Provide regular financial analysis and reports

  • Management - Plan, organise and execute programmed activities in a timely manner. Develop a close working relationship with consultants and contractors.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills required

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all members of the project team, and be client and contractor facing.

  • Must be able to operate under a degree of autonomy.

  • Must be able to directly discuss and negotiate financial matters with project managers

  • Understanding of financial systems.

  • Must have a proven track record in the construction industry.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2-5 years experience in the consulting environment specialising in financial, review, analysis, management and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or Architecture

  • Specific Project Management / Financial training or qualifications would be an advantage
