Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented senior drainage enginee r for immediate employment in the Tampa office. This is an opportunity to become involved with large interstate and mid-size roadway design projects within Florida. This position will provide an opportunity to enhance and gain valuable project experience as a transportation drainage engineer. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in drainage design specific to transportation projects. The incumbent can look forward to projects including major highway and complex interchange design.


  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software, including computer simulation models and Geographical Information System (GIS) software, and equipment to prepare engineering and design analysis and documents

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrologic and hydraulic characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project

  • Preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, transportation impact analysis, and designs for a project

  • Calculate cost and determine the feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data, applying knowledge and techniques of engineering and advanced mathematics

  • Complete planning and evaluation studies

  • Resolve issues or problems concerning conflicting design requirements, specifications and/or difficult coordination requirements

  • May conduct peer reviews and make technical presentations

  • Perform constructability reviews of designs

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

  • 10 + years of transportation drainage engineering experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge in all conventional aspects of transportation drainage facilities and the functional areas of the assignment, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria

  • Specific functional areas include but are not limited to the design of open and closed conveyance systems, retention/detention facilities, cross drain hydraulics, and floodplain evaluation

  • Ability to perform site investigations, planning and evaluation studies, final design computations, specifications, and construction documents

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering

  • Licensed by the State of Florida as a Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to receive a Florida PE within 12 months

  • FDOT drainage design standards and local WMD regulations
