ManTech is seeking a Public Health Analyst to support our epidemiological research and operational policy support program focused on improving warfighter readiness, optimizing recruitment and retention, and informing medical policies. The position entails collaborating with a diverse team of epidemiologists, statisticians, physicians, data analysts, and military personnel to deliver knowledge products to multiple Department of Defense (DoD) stakeholders. This is a temporary remote opportunity; with main position location being at the Walter Reed Army of Research (WRAIR), Silver Spring, MD.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Aid in designing, planning, executing and validating large-scale epidemiological studies which assess and measure the short- and long-term impacts of policy changes

  • Apply sound epidemiologic expertise to interpret results, perform literature reviews, and develop various knowledge products, including annual reports, white papers, manuscripts, and briefings

  • Utilize expertise in SAS, quantitative epidemiological modeling, and data visualization to analyze military personnel and medical data, interpret results, and present findings to various DoD stakeholders

  • Collaborate with team members to rapidly deploy epidemiology-based analytics in response to ad hoc requests for information

  • Translate results to support medical decision making

  • Develop and conduct independent research projects.

  • Be an active, willing and cooperative partner with other members of project teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or statistics, with coursework in epidemiology, study design and analysis, and statistics (through logistic regression methods) plus 2-4 years experience in health research 

  • Experience with statistical techniques including random selection of matched controls in case control studies, survival analysis, analysis of variance and covariance, analysis of repeated measures, correlation, linear, logistic, and Poisson regression, and calculation of odds ratios, relative risk, p-values, interval estimation, and sample size and power estimations

  • Excellent SAS and Microsoft Office applications skills.  Experience with Tableau and/or other data visualization tools a plus

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed to keep research team informed of progress and changes in status of work

  • Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time

  • Must be able to interpret and apply statistical techniques, and to explain methods and findings to non-statistician research team members

  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation, consensus-building, and analytical skills with the ability to work successfully in cross functional teams in an organized, fast-paced environment while meeting time sensitive deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical operations exposure is valuable – including exposure to datasets from EHR/EMR systems and understanding and application of public health, epidemiology, and research principles.

  • Prior service or thorough understanding of the U.S. military is a plus, particular experience with military health systems, data, or healthcare policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of ICD 9/10 codes

  • Experience with Tableau and/or other data visualization tools a plus.


  • The team is temporarily working remotely due to COVID-19 – but will return to on-site work at WRAIR, Silver Spring, Maryland. Candidates within reasonable commute range or those willing to relocate are strongly preferred.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • This position requires US citizenship and the ability to attain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for up to 50% of the time.

  • Must be able to move about inside the office or IT environment to access computer systems, modules; equipment and IT machinery.

  • Must be able to constantly operate computers and other IT environment systems such as IT machinery, modules, etc.

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.

  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • The person in this position must be able to detect, identify, observe, and assess written communications; presentations; and manuals.

The projected compensation range for this position is $74,800-$125,400. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
