Mid-level Contamination Control Engineer

KBR is seeking a Mid-level Contamination Control Engineer to support operations on behalf of our customers to ensure compliance with relevant Contamination Engineering requirements. The projects you will support various projects at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). One such project is TSIS-2, the Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor-2 mission, which will measure the Sun’s brightness above the atmosphere, continuing more than four decades of continuous irradiance measurements of our nearest star. This interesting, challenging work includes implementing contamination controls for spacecraft, instruments and associated hardware. This work is primarily on site at GSFC in Greenbelt, MD, though some work can be done remotely. Some travel may be required to hardware vendors and launch sites. Travel is typically less than one week a month. Working under the direction of a senior Contamination Control Engineer, and with CC Technicians you will monitor, review, facilitate and evaluate contamination control requirements, planning, implementation and verification, support/facilitate detailed contamination analyses (typically done by CC Analysts), and assist in troubleshooting and solving contamination problems encountered during all phases of spacecraft and instruments (concept, design, fabrication, assembly, test and transportation).

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, Physics, or related field
  • 10 + years of related experience
  • Ability to apply, and sometimes develop, Contamination Engineering concepts and tools
  • Experience with clean room operations, hardware cleaning and inspection methods, and troubleshooting
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with engineers in various disciplines, as well technicians and management staff, provide guidance to technicians, and accept direction from more experienced contamination control engineers
  • Strong communication skills across disciplines and technical knowledge levels
  • Have an ongoing willingness to learn

Preferred Experience & Skills:

Experience with troubleshooting, materials, processes, coatings, planetary protection (biology), outgassing, offgassing, vacuum systems, and knowledge of the space environment (vacuum, particulate and electromagnetic radiation, thermal, atomic oxygen)
