AECOM is hiring Pipefitter Apprentices to join the Shell Scotford Turnaround project team on site near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. This is a temporary position supporting the Turnaround scope of work on a 6/1 shift schedule.

There will be opportunity to move straight through into pre-work for our Spring 2022 TA work so long-term work is potential!

  • Travel: Hires are expected to have their own reliable transportation to and from site

  • Accommodation: Camp accommodation is not provided

  • Shift and Work Hours: 6 days on, 1 day off, 10+ hours per day; Day and night shift available

  • Hourly Retention Bonus:

  • $4.00 per hour will be paid for all hours worked on the Turnaround scope between September 6, 2021 and October 16, 2021 on Shell Scotford Turnaround with AECOM Maintenance Contractors Limited

  • Payment will be issued once the work is completed

  • Workers must stay for duration or until you are released. If you are terminated for cause or you resign you will not be paid the retention bonus

  • Living out Allowance:

  • For non-local Pipefitters (residing outside 120kms), Shell will provide $110 per day - 7 days per week during the Turnaround work phase (Pre and Post work is not eligible)

Steamfitter – pipefitters lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes. Pipefitters also remove and replace worn components, do general maintenance work and may work on plant shut-downs.

Pipefitter Apprentice will be expected to do but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of functional operation of various piping system components by measuring, cutting, threading, grooving and bending of pipes, valves and fittings

  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes

  • Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair pressurized piping systems

  • Hydrotest and install fabricated pipe spools within structural steel modular assemblies, adding designed supports as required

  • Have the ability to perform Crane lifts to set equipment

  • Use testing equipment effectively to check for system leaks and troubleshoot fitting errors

  • Maintain all tools, work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion

  • Read and interpret client and company supplied construction fabrication drawings and specifications

  • Red-line update drawings to an as-built condition

  • Follow various AECOM and Client policies & procedures including adherence to requirements of ISO 9001-2000

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be registered in AIT's (Alberta Industry Training) Steamfitter/Pipefitter Apprenticeship Program or equivalent from another provincial trades governing body

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification

  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Fall Protection

  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Confined Space Entry

  • OSSA or Energy Safety Canada Certified Firewatch

  • Telehandler/Forklift training

  • Crane/Rigging training

  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean Driver's Abstract
