The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead traffic engineer on mid- to large size projects.

  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for traffic engineering projects

  • Approves and signs off on traffic design projects

  • Provides technical expertise for traffic, signal and ITS studies and design

  • Presents complex technical solutions to clients.

  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.

  • Participates in development of technical proposals.

  • Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering or a related degree

  • 8 plus years of experience in traffic, signal and ITS design

  • Experience completing Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP) tasks

  • Experience completing traffic signal and ITS design projects

  • Experience successfully managing traffic engineering projects

  • Knowledge of Synchro, VISSIM, CENTRACS, Smartways, TACTICS, and other traffic engineering software

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 years traffic engineering experience

  • Experience successfully submitting construction plans within the ALDOT system

  • IMSA level 2 Certification or higher

  • Alabama Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain within 6 months
