Job Responsibilities

This candidate will work on traffic engineering and transportation planning tasks under the guidance of a senior engineer. The candidate would also be responsible for working independently on some tasks. The work will include signal coordination, traffic impact analysis, traffic studies, transportation planning, peer reviews and traffic operational analysis. Other work will involve preparing pavement delineation plans, lane closure reports and transportation management plans. Typical software work includes SYNCHRO, VISSIM, CUBE, FREQ, TRAFFIX, AUTOCAD, MicroStation, and HCS. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed planning products.

  • Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility, industry, equipment or program function.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws.

  • Oversees specialized planning functions, such as large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.

  • Provides overall management of IE-related planning issues.

  • Advises the Planning Director on all planning-related matters.

  • Advises various councils, boards, commissions and elected officials in planning related issues

  • Evaluates operations and activities of assigned responsibilities.

  • Prepares reports on operations and activities, recommending improvements and modifications.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Practice in traffic operations and transportation planning studies

  • Working knowledge of simulation software like Synchro/Simtraffic, Vissim and/or other traffic/transportation related software/manuals

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered P.E. or T.E.

  • Practice in traffic operations and transportation planning studies

  • Working knowledge of simulation software like Synchro/Simtraffic, Vissim and/or other traffic/transportation related software/manuals

  • Professional experience in California

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work with Teams/manage parallel projects/tasks

  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint tools.

  • Ability to go and collect field data
