SAIC currently has an opening for a Senior Systems Administrator to work at a NIWC San Diego, CA. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience providing advanced computing solutions in a heterogeneous environment. We use a wide array of Windows and Linux systems in a tightly integrated environment with a focus on security and high performance computing. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Install, support and maintain both physical and virtual network servers and appliances
  • Administer software network hardware and equipment including switches, APs, etc.
  • Provide technical support when needed
  • Secure and maintain Microsoft and RHEL servers
  • Support cybersecurity efforts for RMF accreditations (ATO)
  • Perform ACAS scans and STIG compliance as required
  • Patching and scanning of Windows and Linux Systems
  • Perform system backups for future recovery and ensure security through access controls
  • Strong desire to adhere to best practices and provide the highest quality of service and support
  • Monitor and maintain system performance, recommend changes and upgrades
  • Build technical documentation, manuals, and diagrams in Confluence
  • Patch management
  • Building and maintaining Host Based Security System (HBSS) servers
  • Promote collaboration with other staff members and participate in the implementation of new projects, ideas, etc.


Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related experience; years of experience may be substiuted in lieu of a degree.


  • Firm working knowledge of Windows or Linux systems
  • 5 years of hands-on experience working with VMware / Hyper-V
  • Understanding of application and OS security, virus scanning, and patching in an RMF environment
  • Cisco certified preferred or must have experience in switching
  • Detailed oriented with excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and documentation skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with other team members
  • Experience with backup, antivirus and anti-malware/spyware solutions
  • Problem solve rapidly and effectively, in a timely manner
  • Must have strong work ethic to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills while working on fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multi task
  • Works with a sense of urgency, while engaging and listening to experts
  • Exhibits a high degree of flexibility in adapting to a rapidly changing environment

Required clearance:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

Required Certifications:

  • Windows or Linux Certifications
  • Security+ CE (IAT Level II)


  • Network+ CE
  • CISSP (IAT Level III)


  • Occasional local travel (20%) may be required.
