Senior Ground Systems Engineer

 SAIC is looking for a Senior Ground Systems Engineer to support a major satellite systems acquisition program in Chantilly, VA. In this role you will provide ground software development oversight, witness and evaluate software validation and verification testing, and provide enterprise integration support to a government program acquisition office.  The program has completed software critical design review and is proceeding though coding, integration and test.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the prime contractor’s software implementation for a comprehensive spacecraft control element including command and control, mission management, and ground processing systems software.
  • Review contractor software test plans, verification and validation plans, and software test results to assess requirements compliance
  • Review contractor mission operator products and test environment/simulators to enable a successful satellite testing and launch campaign
  • Track software development issues, significant accomplishments, and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates and observations, verbally and in writing (e-mail) to the customer
  • Develop and foster productive relationships with prime/subcontractor counterparts and other subject matter experts
  • Participate in software system, subsystem and segment level design and test reviews and program management reviews to assess design maturity, requirements compliance, and to provide assessments to the government
  • Participate in integrated product team meetings
  • Attend contractor and subcontractor engineering boards (configuration management, request for change, risk management, software qualification testing) and provide feedback to the government
  • Proactively identify and assess emerging technical and programmatic risks at the system and enterprise level and then work with prime/subcontractor to develop mitigation approaches



  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with Poly 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 10+ years’ experience in design, development, and test of satellite ground command & control and mission processing systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment
  • Experience with NRO systems
  • Understanding of IC/DoD satellite systems and architectures
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Available to travel domestically
