Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Geologist for employment in the Orange, CA office to support field and office operations for geotechnical investigations. The ideal candidate will have prior experience drilling, soil and rock logging for a range of civil engineering projects. Additionally, this candidate will be willing and able to learn new skills on challenging field assignments in a team work environment.

Job Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Have a working knowledge of California geology, engineering geology and ground investigation practice.

  • Be able to describe soils and rocks, appreciate geomorphological features,

  • Be able to record your findings and write clear and concise reports.

  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of CAD and geotechnical software would be an advantage.

  • Conducting engineering geology field work, including soil and rock logging

  • Install monitoring wells, inclinometers and other instrumentation

  • Provide fieldwork oversight of subcontractors

  • Geologic mapping

  • Collecting and entering data

  • Supporting office tasks, including data analysis and report preparation.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree + zero (0) years of related experience OR demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in Geology or related Earth Science. Master’s degree preferred.

  • 0 to 3 years of professional experience

  • Communicates well, verbally and written

  • Strong organization skills
