Currently, ManTech is recruiting highly talented engineers with skills and background related to launch vehicle design and operations, including rocket avionics, structures and mechanisms.  ManTech is helping the Space Force redefine the future of National Security Space (NSS) launch as the Space Force brings new entrant Launch Service Providers such as SpaceX and new launch vehicles such as United Launch Alliance’s (ULA’s) Vulcan into the Space Force NSS portfolio.  We are seeking an experienced and energetic Project Integration Engineer to join our world-class team in El Segundo, CA.  This position supports the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC), Launch Enterprise Directorate (SMC/LE) executing the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Program ensuring launch vehicles meet requirements for NSS satellite mission launch services.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide systems and technical project engineering support to the U.S. Space Force, Space Systems Command for Recurring and Non-Recurring Design Validation of launch vehicles being used to provide launch services for Department of Defense (DoD) National Security Space Launch (NSSL) missions.
  • Participate in structures system, sub-system, and component design reviews, Working Groups, and various Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) as needed.
  • Review completed team products for completeness and acceptance and collect and track to closure all actions resulting from reviews.
  • Interface with a multi-disciplined team consisting of multiple Contractors, Vendors, FFRDC, and Space Force team members.
  • Interface with various team members at various levels of all organizations involved and be able to execute successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Document Lessons Learned on Launch Operations process and CONOPs.
  • Prepare Customer team for, and support rehearsals and launch operations and anomaly resolution, including development of certification and training material.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Day of Launch tools and CONOPs.
  • Produce integrated technical assessments on current and future launch vehicle and launch pad design, test, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Perform technical and engineering data management, such as data mining and reporting.
  • Plan, coordinate, and brief at Chief Engineer Review Boards and other meetings.
  • Collaborate with Aerospace Corporation, Launch Service Providers (LSPs), Launch Sites, and factories.
  • Conduct, provide recommendations for, and support launch risk management processes
  • Conduct, provide recommendations for, and support launch schedule management
  • Develop, technically assess and update program and project deliverables and documentation, including contract deliverables.
  • Create draft government acquisition strategies, requests for proposals (RFPs), and supporting documentation for government review as required for new NSSL launch service contracts, development contracts, and investment vehicles.
  • Assist in all aspects of Government acquisition processes, contract business support and contract analysis.
  • Develop schedules that integrate acquisition tasks for new NSSL launch service contracts, development contracts, and investment vehicles
  • Document, update and make recommendations for contract document submittals.
  • Products include but are not limited to the following:
    • Acquisition strategy plans, documents and briefings; Sole source Justification & Approval (J&A) memoranda; Requests for Proposals (RFPs); Draft Performance Work Statements (PWS); Work Breakdown Structure Summaries(WBS), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Incentive Plans, Financing Plans, Proposal Instructions, and Evaluation Criteria, analyses and recommendations for program reporting, development of program and project briefings, documentation configuration/control, action tracking, and coordination of documentation review process.
  • Integrate program/project tasks and provide technical assessment, evaluation and recommendations for post-RFP release activities, to include sole source fact finding, proposal technical evaluations, and negotiations; and competitive source selection specialized support.
  • Occasional travel in the CONUS is required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in STEM field.
  • 9 years as Mechanical/Aerospace engineer in relevant fields
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Strong background and experience in Aerospace and Launch Vehicles in areas of avionics, flight software, or mission analysis systems.
  • Demonstrated independence, initiative and dedicated proactive problem solving.
  • Sound judgment, effective decision-making, successful collaboration with multiple agencies and personnel.
  • Demonstrated competency with MS Office products, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and collaborative software products such as MS SharePoint-type databases and Information Systems databases.
  • Proficient in using Confluence/Jira
  • Actively adopts new learning techniques and is proactive in using new tool technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams during design, test, and evolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform design reviews, pre- and post-test reviews, failure analysis reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability preparing and giving written and verbal presentations and reports to senior engineers and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Launch Console experience providing technical expertise during launch operations.
  • Previous experience working at Space & Missile Systems Center (SMC, now SSC) or other USG agencies, is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and oral and written communication skills
  • Previous familiarization and experience with software platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and Slack a plus.
  • Prior military or launch vehicle systems experience.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have an Active Secret Clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
