Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, mission and customer-oriented Backup Engineer to join our team in the Washington D.C. area.  

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Provision/Configure required backups for Linux and Window servers 

  • Create and maintain backup infrastructure with the appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations, using both OEM and third-party tools on Linux and Windows environments

  • Monitor and correct critical backup issues and create recovery processes for failures and performance bottlenecks and configure alerts for proactive response times 

  • Supports backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity team 

  • Analyze business requirements and define practical business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) recommendations and tradeoff options 

  • Triage, prioritize, and assign backlog of tasks to a team of engineers based on technical difficulty, value to the business, and operational risk

  • Create technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and plans 

  • Responsible for deployment, testing, certification, patching, addressing interoperability issues, not only of the base data backup system, but for all features, components, and application dependencies 

  • Evaluate, improve, and maintain the information security throughout the backup infrastructure 

  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks, such as monitoring backup storage 

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability to include verification of the replication of data, fail over copies, redundant data sets 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems  

  • A minimum of (3) three years of relevant logistics experience 

  • Experience working in a large data-center environment, and understanding of data center infrastructure, virtualization, and automation techniques 

  • Experience with a heterogeneous environment and wide variety of hardware vendors, technologies, and operating systems in on-premises and cloud-hosted environments? 

  • Proven ability to define and operationalize continuity and DR plans, including determining staffing needs, standard operating procedures for response and escalation, and monitoring/alerting approaches 

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of backup and DR tools 

  • Knowledge, skills and abilities in SAFe Agile processes and methods 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree  

  • A minimum of (1) year of related experience 

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) – Data Center certification 

  • An Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 Foundation Certification 

  • Any additional certifications in backup technologies (Veritas, Rubrik, etc), VMware, Microsoft, or Linux, or other related skills 

 

Clearance Requirements: 

  • Top Secret w/SCI 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to be in a stationary position more than 50% of the time 

  • Must be able to communicate, converse, and exchange information with peers and senior personnel 

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer 

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations 

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
