JOB SUMMARY

The UIC Science Arctic HSE Specialist Implements and monitors required HSET training programs to meet regulatory, company, and client expectations. The Arctic HSE Specialist is responsible for data entry and maintenance of the training database, record keeping, and reporting related to all job functions. This position will require time in the field and away from home. The candidate may also perform various administrative and logistical support duties as assigned:

Facilitate adherence to all safety plans, practices and reporting requirements.

Work with the client team HSE Manager to develop/update program safety information, assist with HSE audits and assist with reporting requirements as required.

Work with the client team HSE Manager and the client designated teammates to support the medical/clinic program requirements as required, and to provide required information to support the telemedicine program throughout the Arctic.

Coordinate with the client team HSE Manager, the client teammates, and the NSF contracted entity to support the Physical Qualification (PQ) process for all ARSLS program participants who are required to PQ for their field work.

Coordinate with the client team HSE Manager and the client teammates to support the Arctic Field Training program. This will include coordinating the field training requirements and courses (in person, virtual and on-line options) with the PI’s and field team members. UIC will coordinate with Battelle team HSE Manager and the client teammates to provide additional support, potentially including qualified instructors, for courses at various locations across the U.S and Arctic locations as required.

All incidents, accidents and near misses that UICS Documents regardless of project affiliation will be shared with the client Team.

UICS will complete and submit any other deliverables required by the client Safety Team.

Requirements:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Develops and maintains training matrixes, schedules and curriculum as directed
Provide snowmobile and ATV Training curriculum to clients as required
Develop curriculum and conduct Arctic Field Training to clients and personnel
Conduct client orientation and maintain orientation materials
Adjust orientation materials as necessary to meet changing internal and client requirements
Implements training programs and initiatives utilizing computer based, and site specific methods.
Monitors training programs, receives feedback, and supports continuous improvement
Provides logistical and administrative support as requested
Maintains training material library
Performs and oversees data entry for training and facilities databases
Maintains and provides quality control for training, training records and documentation
Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Binders in all facilities and adjust as necessary.
Maintain Site Specific Safety Plans for UIC Science.
Facilitate and complete project risk assessments for each supported project.
Maintain project safety files on the SharePoint site
Other Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in the science field is required
Bachelors of Science or similar experience required.
Must have advanced computer skills, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
Travel required
Valid State Driver’s License
Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
