HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC INSPECTOR (APG EAGLE-21-1640-F):

Bowhead seeks Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspectors to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspectors are responsible for inspecting heavy equipment and establishing what repairs, rebuilds or overhauls of major assemblies are required.

Essential functions will include:

• Analyzing malfunctions and repair or rebuild of heavy equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools
• Inspecting and testing equipment and circuits to identify malfunctions or defects, using wiring diagrams and specialized testing devices such as compression testers, spring compression testers, motor analyzers, test benches, dynamometers, ohmmeters, voltmeters, or ammeters
• Identifying parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; transmissions; fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems, for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges
• Diagnosing the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required
• Operating and inspecting machines or equipment to diagnose defects and insure operating efficiency
• Following checklists, will ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas
• Consulting technical manuals, publications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other written directives to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and to determine optimum equipment functioning
• Inspecting equipment to DA standards of 10/20/30 level repairs
• Requisitioning materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts
• Recording inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, and quantities inspected or graded
• Notifying facility personnel of equipment shutdown


Requirements:

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to at least five (5+) years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
• Must possess a valid state CDL Driver’s License and be able to maintain/obtain a forklift license
• Any prior experience with government contracts and locations is helpful
• Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:
• May be required to perform walking, pushing, lifting and standing for long periods of time.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Lifts between 50 pounds and 150 pounds should be handled utilizing the “two-person” lift technique.


SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
