The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Principal Planner & Team Lead to join our team in Melbourne.

You will be responsible for the leadership and management of the KBR Victorian Planning Team consisting of planners, urban designers, and paraprofessionals. This team currently provides expert planning advice and services on a diverse range of projects including, state significant infrastructure. Projects may include statutory and strategic planning services comprising of discrete studies, approvals, planning scheme amendments, due diligence at project concept stage or general planning advice from project commencement through to the delivery stage of a project.

As the Principal Planner & Team Lead, you will develop and maintain good relationships with clients, authorities, and internal stakeholders. An important part of the role is providing mentoring and direction for junior planners and advising senior management.

Additionally, you will contribute significantly to the pursuit of opportunities, proposals, budgets and plans and management of stakeholders. You may also manage small projects and proposals as a “seller/doer” or manage work packages on a larger project.

Who are you?

As an individual you are excited by the prospects of delivering iconic projects with key clients. You have demonstrated your ability to work closely with engineers and development teams in delivery of projects and proposals for a range of clients and infrastructure types.

You are keen to progress your career as a leader, driven but the success of your team, possessing qualities of empathy and humility. You have strong communication skills and can demonstrate integrity and accountability from experience in your previous roles.

You understand the importance of actively maintaining professional networks within the company and across broader industry and building strong relationships with a range of government departments and industry stakeholders.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience as a planning consultant in the infrastructure field as a planner
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, preferably you have had exposure to business development and marketing activities
  • Ability to lead a team of up to 10 professionals from all levels
  • Eligibility for membership in a professional association
