Manager, Cost Control (Hybrid)

This position is contingent on contract award.

KBR is seeking a Manager, Cost Control for the Science & Space Business Unit’s Mission Information Technology organization. The Manager, Cost Control will partner with Functional and Program Management to oversee financial performance of assigned programs, deliver on program financial planning requirements, and convey detailed variance explanations against established plans. The Manager, Control Analyst will report directly to the Senior Manager of Program Planning & Control. Position is located within the Washington, DC metropolitan area and will offer a hybrid schedule; some hours will be remote, some hours will be in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Under broad direction, is accountable for the performance and results of multiple related disciplines (e.g., Program Management, Contracts, Supply Chain, Accounting, etc.) to address requirements and financial performance for assigned programs.
  • Manages the delivery of functional objectives by providing daily leadership, coaching & direction to assigned staff.
  • Oversees, manages, & guides staff on various financial functions such as budgeting, auditing, forecasting, & analysis.
  • Provides management with financial analysis & reporting to ensure costs are controlled and profits maximized.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as FAR, SOX, CAS, and other government regulations.
  • Develop and maintain Estimates to Complete (EAC’s) across various projects (Cost-Type, T&M, Fixed Price, etc.)
  • Preparation and presentation of internal and external financial reporting as required by contract or to assist other functions throughout the organization, including Monthly Management Report, Quarterly Program Status Review, etc.
  • Under general direction, use specialized knowledge and skills to solve complex and unique problems, direct the daily financial activities of assigned programs, partner with functional support within project controls, and balance multiple priorities.
  • Develop and provide program forecasts in support of the annual planning cycle as well as monthly/routine updates to accurately convey expected program financial performance and resulting routine variance reporting.
  • Support month-end close process for assigned programs to ensure accurate revenue and profit recognition.
  • Ensure assigned programs are invoiced in accordance with the terms and condition of the contract and timely collections are monitored to completion.
  • Analyze financial trends and variances for assigned programs to correct errors, provide estimates to complete, and drive accurate revenue and profit targets.
  • Monitor schedule/milestones to facilitate estimates to complete and process scope changes.
  • Guide the preparation and delivery of external customer reporting and internal (KBR) deliverables per the contract terms and conditions.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex problems independently and establish priorities for the completion of assigned tasks to guarantee completion.
  • Participates in the development of project controls strategy and may be responsible for global processes and procedures in estimating, project risk control, cost control, and scheduling
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or other Business/Economics related field
  • 14+ years related experience, a master’s degree may be substituted for two years of related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program financial management concepts (e.g., Orders/Sales/Profit/Cash, budgets/forecasts, estimates to complete, project schedules, contract funding and multiple contract types such as Cost Plus, Time & Material, Fixed Price, etc.)
  • In depth proficiency with Costpoint and COGNOS
  • Strong proficiency with advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Familiarity with government agency customer reporting requirements (i.e., NASA, DOD)
  • Knowledge of project management, scheduling, and control account planning concepts with COBRA or other EVMS reporting engine
