At ManTech International Corporation, you’ll work on innovative projects that offer opportunities for advancement. ManTech’s Health Division is seeking an experienced  Lead Systems Engineer - Backup & Restore specializing in backup/restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions for a potential project with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Rockville, MD 

 

This position will support data center operations and cloud-modernization efforts, and acts as technical lead of a small team, a hands-on technical architect and domain expert, and an escalation point for troubleshooting challenging issues within a 200+ person program. This position is designated as key personnel on the program, reports directly to the Program Manager, and works with senior government officials day-to-day and needs to have the ability to both manage technical efforts and deliver on business requirements.   

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the backup/restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity team

  • Analyze business requirements and define practical business continuity and disaster recovery recommendations, analyze risk for different approaches 

  • Serve as a customer-facing subject matter expert, including responsibility to craft and communicate recommendations, risk analysis, and architecture roadmaps to a mixed business and technical audience

  • Triage, prioritize, and assign a backlog of tasks to a team of engineers

  • Create technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and plans

  • Mentor and support team members through difficult technical problems

  • Perform as team leader and hands-on team member as necessary

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 4 in specialized roles focused on backup/restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity

  • Experience working in a large data center environment and understanding of data center infrastructure. Enterprise-level backup/recovery, high-availability, and failover approaches

  • Experience with a heterogeneous environment and wide variety of hardware vendors, technologies, and operating systems in on-premises, cloud-hosted, and hybrid environments

  • Deep and specialized experience in defining and managing operational continuity and disaster recovery plans, including determining staffing needs, standard operating procedures for response and escalation, and monitoring/alerting approaches

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of vendors related to backup/restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability tools and platforms such as Veeam, Commvault, Veritas, Rubrik, Acronis, etc. No candidate will be an expert in all these platforms – but you must have proven depth in at least one – and broad exposure to the pros/cons of products in the enterprise backup and recovery space

  • Experience in large/enterprise environments with thousands of servers, virtual machines, containerized applications, and network devices

  • Experience creating and managing technical and process documentation, including conducting formal risk analyses, defining roadmaps to improve disaster recovery and continuity in a large-scale enterprise (thousands of virtual or physical servers and network devices)

  • Active (current) credential with one of the following Cisco certifications: CCNA Data Center, CCNP Data Center, or CCIE Data Center certification

  • Active (current) credential from the Storage Networking Certification Program (SNCP) administered by the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) - such as the: SCSP-SNIA Certified Storage Professional, Engineer, Architect, or Storage Networking Expert

  • Active (current) credential/certification in one or more vendor-specific products in the enterprise backup and restore space – particularly Veritas or Rubrik

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certification in, or exposure to operating within processes as defined by the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v4 framework

  • Certifications in additional source-system products from Microsoft, VMware, or RedHat – focused on backup/recovery or high-availability

  • Experience with large (100+ FTE) government programs focused on enterprise IT infrastructure support and operations, particularly those involved in healthcare

  • Knowledge of FDA data centers, enterprise IT infrastructure, or maintenance of FDA Center-specific software applications

 

Location and Travel:  

This is an on-site position primarily in Rockville, Maryland that also requires travel to data centers located in Ashburn, VA and Silver Spring, MD. Telecommuting is not a long-term (post-COVID) option. Exceptional candidates will be considered for relocation.  

 

Security Clearance Requirements: 

Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 2 (sensitive moderate risk) background investigation and clearance. 

Physical Requirements: 

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, move about both office and data-center facilities including examining/configuring equipment in standard-depth 42U racks.
