Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Interior Designer I to be based in Roanoke, VA.

Position will begin in June 2022.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Under general supervision, responsible for initiating and developing design and construction document drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline team lead.

  • Under general supervision, develops complex interior design documents.

  • Exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex design issues, and uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.

  • Intermediate knowledge of the design process.

  • Intermediate knowledge the purpose and use of vendor documents, reviews them for accuracy and resolves discrepancies.

  • Intermediate knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs thorough and accurate material take-offs for the discipline.

  • Intermediate knowledge of discipline’s materials costs and cost analysis and forecasting methods.

  • Intermediate knowledge of the discipline’s equipment and material lists.

  • Advises the design project lead about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.

  • Understands and assists with the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.

  • Assists in interpreting industry codes, permits, and standards, and ensures design and drawing compliance.

  • Understands the role of each of the other disciplines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture or related field

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Basic knowledge of the design process, including FF&E, furniture systems and specifications, finishes and materials, programming and space planning.

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCad, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and PowerPoint.
