Job Summary

Important Engineering Company is currently seeking a GIS Consultant to join our Madrid office focused on leading and organizing the GIS work delivered as part of environmental and engineering project.

You will need to establish strong relationships with internal Project Managers and technical leads, with the aim of maximizing the benefit that geospatial technology can bring to project delivery. For succeeding in your duties, you are expected to have excellent skills in data management, figure production, spatial analysis, mobile data collection and the use of GIS tools, including webmap applications. Further, the ability to work with CAD and to understand BIM/GIS interfaces, as well as basic programming skills will be valued. Additionally, an environmental background will be also a “plus”.


  • Support the GIS element of major projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Provide consultancy to internal and external clients to understand their needs and provide solutions.

  • Support projects in Spain and other regions as when required (i.e., good communication skills, as well as fluency in English).

  • Perform multiple tasks concurrently within strict timeframes, scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.

  • Actively interact with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Development and implementation of GIS Standards and best practice.

  • Provide support and guidance on spatial data management.

  • Design and manage geodatabases.

  • Carry out geoprocessing/analysis tasks.

  • Produce maps/drawings, as well as support webGIS (AGOL/ArcGIS Enterprise/apps) setting up map viewers, data collection applications & dashboards.

  • Developing and using Esri mobile apps such as Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture and Workforce.

  • Take responsibility on the spatial data review process and the application of quality standards.

  • Coordinate and supervise GIS work.

  • Actively support developing digital tools applied to environmental and engineering services.

  • Ability and flexibility to work across a range of services and sectors including transportation, buildings and places, oil & gas, power (including renewables) and manufacturing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as GIS Consultant.


  • Full professional competence in GIS, including the following:

  • Knowledge of various data types such as CAD, GPS, LiDAR, flat-file databases and ability to convert and work with them in GIS environment.

  • Ability to work with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise Portal.

  • Database knowledge (e.g., ArcGIS for Server, EQuIS, MS Access, SQL Server).

  • Prior experience with web-based GIS services (e.g., Geocortex, CARTO, Mapbox, QGIS Cloud, Instamaps, etc.) and other open-source GIS Solutions/datasets.

  • Experience working in national and international projects as part of multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience in the transportation, buildings & places, oil & gas, power (including renewables) and manufacturing sectors.

  • Ability to write well structured, concise and well-reasoned reports, proposals and documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in GIS/Geospatial services, Geography, Computer Science or a related technical field with emphasis in geographic information systems (GIS)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant environmental discipline is a strong advantage.
