Job Summary

The Water Division of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Graduate Geotechnical Engineer for employment in the Geotechnical Group in the Dallas, Austin, or Houston, TX office, or the Baton Rouge or New Orleans, LA office.

This position is expected to begin in summer 2022.

The Geotechnical Engineering Team in Texas is unique, as it works on a variety of large, high-profile projects for a variety of industries including Water, Transportation, Architecture, Environmental, and Construction. This involves site investigations, soil laboratory testing interpretations, all manner of geotechnical analyses and calculations, rehabilitation designs, alternatives analyses, etc.

We provide services for water/wastewater, transportation, hazardous waste, industrial infrastructure and process, petrochemical, general building, military facilities and equipment platforms, and defense and security programs.

In this role, you would get the opportunity to do the following, under supervision and a mentor.

  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses

  • Assist in the procurement of subcontract drilling and laboratory testing services

  • Establish boring locations in the field

  • Supervise field drilling operations and construction inspections

  • Complete laboratory testing assignments

  • Perform quality control checks on the laboratory test results

  • Prepare Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and drilling plans

  • Develop design parameters of the soils and rock

  • Perform geotechnical analyses to determine the bearing capacity, settlement, stability, and other characteristics of the subsurface materials

  • Complete geotechnical reports and proposals for review by senior technical staff

  • Complete analyses to determine the most cost-effective foundation design solutions

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited university

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Certification for Engineer in Training (EIT), or able to obtain it within 6 months after start of employment

  • Ability to work on fast paced complex projects

  • Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time

  • Willing to work overtime if needed to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request

  • Detail-oriented and technical

  • Highly motivated self-starter
