SAIC is looking for a mid-level optical physicist or engineer to support measurements and models of laser interactions with both organic and inorganic materials for the United States Air Force.  Specifically, the role involves considerations of laser propagation and interactions, including applying concepts in radiometry and biological effects of laser interactions with tissues.  The applicant will work on a wide range of tasks including theoretical analyses, model development, software prototyping, and code verification.  In addition, the applicant may be required to assist with other, related projects involving bioeffects and laser eye protection.  The applicant is expected to document processes, procedures, and test results, and present results to the government sponsor and project teams.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education:  Ph.D. in optical physics or engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and strong presentation and writing skills.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ten years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with concepts and applications of radiometry.
  • Familiarity with optical measurements in the visible and near-infrared spectral ranges.
  • Familiarity with laser-tissue interaction processes.
  • Familiarity with statistical techniques.
  • Proficiency with software such as Python, MatLab, and C++
