HL Law Group, a merit-driven, client-centric, insurance litigation firm, seeks a Case Manager I ("CM I") to work with his/her assigned attorney and with the Litigation Support Manager to pro-actively move cases forward toward their conclusion in litigation or settlement. The responsibilities are far-ranging and include using, per attorney direction, the legal process to the utmost to secure favorable outcomes for clients. The CMI will serve as a catalyst for case movement and will motivate, affirm, train and organize each attorney's team to perform at high levels.
The CMI will play a pivotal role in coordinating the attorney's support team, including the Case Manager II, to achieve optimum movement on the docket. The CMI will be proficient at each of these roles and will be expected to jump in and fill the breach in the event of absence/non-performance by any other member of the team.
The CMI will be pro-active and will work in tandem with the Legal Assistant Case Manager II to address all scheduling and calendar issues in a timely manner. The CMI will ensure that attorneys are aware of and meet critical deadlines. He or she will work with the attorney(s) to draft motions, pleadings and discovery responses, as needed, to move each case towards completion.
The CMI will develop strong client relationships in the course of completing his/her tasks. This will include being a willing point of contact for clients and providing periodic status reports to clients, informing the attorney or actual and recurring client questions and being, when necessary, an informal guide for clients as they seek to navigate the process of securing payment for their claims. As part of the client interface, the CMI will pay close attention to all incoming correspondence and calls and will work diligently to respond initially to requests, questions and inquiry with 24 hours to observe the Firm's "Immediate Response rule."
The CMI will actively shepherd the Discovery, Settlement and Trial Processes, doing whatever it takes to have the POD/Team prepared for each settlement or trial event. In terms of discovery, the CMI will ensure that the team meets deadlines and provides legally sufficient responses within prescribed statutory timelines. This will involve working closely with the attorney(s), the Senior Trial Attorney and all of the members of the team.
The CMI will also help each attorney to organize his or her team responsibilities, including but not limited to working with the attorney whenever a new Legal Assistant, Law Student Intern or Associate is added to the team. The CMI will play an active role in the onboarding process to ensure that each new team member has the resources he or she will need to succeed on the team.

Scope of the Position
This Firm seeks an enthusiastic CMI who pays attention to details and is talented and getting others to do the same. The CMI will understand the importance of responding to court and other deadlines in a timely manner and will groom a team that respects and adheres to those deadlines, while maintaining healthy work relationships. The Firm values collaboration and a team approach to problem-solving. The CMI will motivate and inspire high levels of performance on the team.
He or she will also be meticulous about drafting pleadings, responses and motions, using the Firm templates. Among other things the CMI will proof-read his/her documents with care to ensure that attorneys receive pre-final drafts that have been appropriately formatting and edited according to accepted Firm protocols.
The successful candidate for this role will be careful and resourceful. He or she will be creative about dealing with interruptions to or changes in the process. He or she will notify the Manager if and when an attorney is falling behind on his/her schedule and he/she will audit the cases in the docket regularly to detect any irregularities or upcoming conflicts.

The CMI will report directly to the assigned attorney and also to the Litigation Support Manager and will have close working relationships with both. The CMI will maintain high levels of professionalism, especially in telephone and email communications, and will be meticulous about updating the Firm's records regarding each and every interaction.

The CMI will also play a hand in onboarding new talent, by explaining his/her activities to incoming hires and by willingly participating in their growth and development on the team.

Key Responsibilities
The CMI will serve as the POD's/attorney(s)' primary resource for moving cases forward to their conclusion. The CMI will:
� Provide intelligent, creative, quality service to clients and business contacts.
� Work with the attorneys and case managers to respond to clients within a 24-Hour window.
� Manage client outreach thoughtfully; help to build strong client relationships; respond within the boundaries of the law, to incoming client inquiries and requests.
� Direct the attorney to any legal matters that must be addressed, based upon incoming client requests; ensure that such requests are handled in a timely manner.
� Communicate regularly with clients, judicial assistants, opposing counsel and court staff.
� Indicate to the Firm's leaders any processes or matters that require quick attention.

� Work large case volume at reasonably fast pace with minimal errors; demonstrate familiarity with pre-litigation, litigation and post-settlement phases of the matters handled.
� Draft and transmit HLLG emails and other written correspondence.
� Prepare and file legal documents and service of documents on third parties (with approval of supervising attorney).
� Assist with collating documents relevant to a legal analysis of the pending cases.
� Pro-actively coordinate drafting of interrogatories, responses to discovery requests and any motions required to move the cases forward to arbitration, settlement or trial.
� Anticipate trial needs and make arrangement for overtime and appropriate staffing, as needed.
� Pitch in spontaneously to assist the CMII with scheduling, discovery, trial preparation and other assignments.
� Minimize court filing errors; engage in active cost reduction practices that keep non-essential fees at a minimum.
� Keep the Firm's leaders updated as to the progress of the docket and any training issues that may need to be addressed.

� Audit attorney's assigned case docket to ensure that all cases remain current; seek out opportunities to generate legitimate movement and progress towards trial.
� Audit the docket on a rotating basis, so each file gets touched at least once per month.
� Report irregularities, question and process suggestions to the Litigation Support Quality Assurance Manager and to the Managing Partners of the POD.
� Supervise each attorney's calendar, including but not limited to providing attorneys with reminders and advanced notice of pending litigation events.
� Ensure that the team/POD meets its discovery and other deadlines.
� Take immediate action on any missed deadline. Inform the LSQAM of the same.
� In collaboration with the Case Manager II, provide oversight for coordinating, scheduling and rescheduling hearings with opposing counsel.
� Negotiate, at attorney direction, with opposing counsel for purposes of entering into agreed orders (with approval of supervising attorney).
� Reach out to attorneys, case managers, and judicial assistants as needed, to resolve any resulting problems.

� Meet regularly with the Managing Partner to ensure that priorities are aligned and that time and attention is being given to urgent matters.
� Coordinate with the entire support team to ensure that matters arrive at litigation fully vetted and well documented.
� Take over and perform the roles of CMII, if and when required by the circumstances.
� Champion new internal processes and procedures; coach peers on all aspects of production and professionalism.

� Willingly attend and learn from Firm training on drafting, discovery, trial preparation, federal practice, confidentiality, harassment, diversity/equity/inclusion, marketing/client relations/communications and other topics of interest.
� Document attendance and implement best practices in daily work.
� Make recommendations to the LSQAM about future professional development events.

� Assist the Firm's recruiting, training and onboarding efforts by sharing information and strategies with new hires.
� Recommend and conduct team training for the team.
� Conduct and help with ongoing, internal Firm-wide training programs, as may be required; and
� Take on other duties and special projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications
� Must be 18 years of age or older
� Bachelor's or Associate degree in a business related field preferred
� Prior experience working in a law office or legal setting (experience in the property damages insurance field preferred)
� Enthusiasm about HLLG and the ability to communicate this to the public at large
